Good value hotels in Bangkok

Post by lomuamart »

Came across this article in the Telegraph a few days ago. Not sure if their idea of "best cheap hotels" in Bangkok will match everyone else's idea of cheap, but it lists places that I've never come across before and a couple look like they're worth checking out:

I have stayed at the Sukhothai a few times and it is an excellent hotel at a very convient location, but it is hardly cheap. I pay 5000B plus and that is with a company discount.

I suppose it's all down to where you draw the line between 'best' and 'cheap'. We probably all draw that line slightly differently.

Yes, I think 'cheap best hotel' rather than 'best cheap hotel'.

Hardly cheap IMHO, and at the majority of those prices, a suite in the Pathumwan Princess is better value. Great location, with the added benefit of 2 hours in a VIP lounge (only accessed with Suite Key-Card), free finger food and drinks........ the latter making a significant discount on normal hotel bills!!

Put the folks in there for 2 nights on their way back to the UK from HH and they're in love with the place.

Added bonus for me is the "Food Hall" in the adjacent MBK which is streets ahead of fast food, very professional and great value........ also good for a beer or 3 whilst the Long Haired General is on a shopping mission!!

Same price range as mine Jose! I guess it's different when you have visitors on holiday who want to splash out a bit - but I've used AW Business Inn off Soi 11 Sukhumvit for 12 years now - never a problem. In all that time I don't think they have had new curtains or carpets - or fridges etc. But there's a 24 hour restaurant, lovely staff, and clean linen every day. 800 for a double or twin. My only 'minus' about it is no fan - aircon only - but the windows open for a breath of hot air when needed.

We've been staying at the Bally Suites on Soi 20 for our last few visits; big room with kitchen (sink, microwave, large fridge, plates, glasses, and utensils), covered guarded parking, flat screen TV with almost everything I get here with TrueVisions platinum, free in room internet (wireless and wired), etc., for around 1200b per night (online). I like it because it's easy to drive to and from via expressway to Rama IV and Soi 22 from the back side as the hotel is one block off 22 at the end of Soi 20. Once safely in the garage, we use the BTS (hotel is halfway between Asoke and Phrom Pong stations) or taxis to get around town. We also like the restaurants and shopping in the area.

^^ The Bally Suites look spot on HHF - couldn't see pricing as low as 1200 though.

I book it through a couple of different online hotel booking sites and have been getting that price for over a year (as late as last month, our last visit).

I prefer to stay in serviced apartments and use Admiral Suites on Soi 22. The things i don't need I don'y pay for: fancy foyers and bars. Plenty outside. About 1300 tbh with kitchen iwith room

^ Jim, I'll have to check that one again. We used to stay there and they doubled their prices during high season to over 2k baht per night. That's when we found Bally's one block away.

The Eugenia most certainly isn't cheap!

Agree with many of the choices & comments.

My personal 'value' pick is S15 at (surprisingly!) the top of Soi 15, Sukhumvit. It isn't the cheapest though some deals are very good - but it probably represents one of the best 'room quality for the price' places I know in Bangers.
