Question: With the 10 million baht posted, will this man ever serve his jail sentence?

He'll have two appeal processes, the second up to the Supreme Court if it goes that far. He's 64 now so if there are two appeals, he'll probably be 67 or 68 by the time it's all over. He's become a liability to both Phua Thai and the Democrats so IMO it makes no difference which government is in power. With that reasoning, I'd say he'll serve time, but not the 20 years as the minimum stipulated in the current sentencing. If I had to guess, 3 to 5. We'll see. He still has many more charges hanging over his head concerning the airport seizure. PeteLung Per wrote:Again: The man has posted a 10 million baht bail to stay out of jail.
I repeat my question:

Certainly whoever came up with the idea of closing the airport should go to jail for a while, in my opinion, as that probably did more economic damage than anything else that's happened over the last few years. He still has many more charges hanging over his head concerning the airport seizure.
This one has been in a jail, on remand, for over a year already:I think a few reds should join him,..

BANGKOK, 29-Feb-12(AP) — A Thai court has sentenced a member of the Red Shirt political movement to 7 1/2 years imprisonment for remarks judged to have insulted the country's monarchy.
The court ruled Tuesday that 70-year-old Surachai Danwattananusorn made speeches against the monarchy three times in 2010.
Surachai was a communist insurgent in Thailand in the 1970s and was imprisoned in the 1980s. More recently he has led a faction of the Red Shirts, who that took to the streets and clashed with the military in 2010.
Thailand's lese majeste law has come under increasing criticism as a violation of free speech. It provides for a jail term up to 15 years for anyone who "defames, insults, or threatens the king, the queen, the heir-apparent, or the regent."

As another member has said, this fool has become a liability to both sides of the divide, so yes, I actually think he will serve some time, but I can't imagine he'll do 20 years.
BTW, my last post was not intended to sound anti-red......lol. Well, it was in a way I suppose, but then again, I'm even more anti-yellow.![]()
If he's out on bail, he can abscond to life in exile a bit more easily though, as we've seen elsewhere....in the big scheme of things, 10 million baht is hardly a great deal of money, so I can't see this chap's bail money keeping him above the law.
