Bangkok's old skyscrapers and fire/safety issues

Post by Spitfire »

It seems that this recent incident has exposed the dangers of some of these old buildings. This place caught fire yesterday, luckily it was pretty empty as it was a weekend, and the fire department had only one hose that could reach the floor the fire was initially on.

Not to mention some of the better equipped fire department vehicles couldn't navigate the narrow sois and that the building had an outdated and inferior sprinkler system due to it being built so long ago, and also this was a building that had 20 or more companies using as it's office space.

Apparently, as of the time of this post, that the 7th floor was electrically refitted recently....so that brings up the question of incompetent electricians refitting the building. This building is old but I reckon that they got off lightly imo.

Maybe some of those posters that live or work in BBK can post too about fire security in such building as it seems many of the skyscrapers are now quite old, not all of course though.

We like to go to the cocktail bar and revolving roof deck at the Baiyoke Sky hotel, you can always get a strong smell of friction linings from the elevator i think it's the tallest building in Thailand.
