Short to Medium Term Internet in Hua Hin

Post by Big Boy »

When I arrive in Hua Hin in 34 days time, I will be moving into rented accommodation until I find somewhere to buy. I will be looking at property in both Hua Hin and Cha-Am. As I see it, the rental period could be anything from 3 months to a year.

I know the house that we're moving into, and it doesn't have Internet connection - last time there I used a dongle. I am wondering about the feasibility of asking our landlady to have Internet installed i.e.:

- When setting up Internet, is there any minimum period that it could be used for? If we moved out after 3 months, would the landlady be left with a commitment that she would have to continue paying for?

- How quickly could I have an Internet line installed?

- Or am I as well using a Dongle again? It worked fine last time.

Does the place have a phone land line BB? With TOT, and I guess BBB, it's pretty straight forward to set up high speed wireless yourself. You go in and visit them, select the plan you want, buy or rent the router box. They then do something at their office, and perhaps in the circuit box in the neighborhood, and you should be good to go. They should come out to the house also if you have a difficult time getting the router set up. To my knowledge with TOT the plans are month to month, although to get some special package they're offering they may want a longer commitment, but I don't recall ever seeing anything over 3 months.

No idea though if it will be faster than your Dongle. Pete

No, it doesn't have a telephone line at the moment. I was thinking maybe BBB, who I believe do Internet without the need for a phone line.

I'm not sure what the waiting time is now for a line from TOT but I don't think it will be quick. That will limit your options.
If you do go TOT, then the packages/promotions I've had from them have been on the basis of a year's contract.
Your dongle thingy may be the best option especially if you're not going to be renting for long.

Nearly all of them will try and sign you up for a year by offering free routers or installation etc or charging you 6k setup fee if you don't want the contract.

You don't need to buy a phone number but they will install their own dedicated internet line (its the same copper cable).

Whatever you use will probably run at advertised speed for 6 weeks or so before turning to utter crap - I've tried every single one of them (Maxnet/3BB/CAT/TOT/KSC) and found this to be the case with them all.

If you're only renting for a few months stick with the dongle if you're getting a good signal from it.

There is a company called Google. Your can send them a letter with your question and they'll get back to you in a week or two. If you can't wait, try this: http://www.google.co.th/#hl=en&gs_nf=1& ... 60&bih=585

Hi Big Boy
The tethering that we tested from I Phone to laptop would have worked out way to expensive.

So i perchased an AIS Air Card 7.2 not cheap at 1250, baht but has 30 hour usage stuffed inside, then just top up from 7-11 shops.

I can quite honestly say those guy's in Banana IT have not got a bloody clue, they could not get it working on my net book an Acer Aspire One until i intervened and showed them there job.

Kendo.
