Dear Naab Thong

I'm bringing my family back to Hua Hin soon. We have been eating out in Thailand for many years and sometimes fine it hard to get authentic Thai style food so we look for proper local places-- your restaurant sounds like the kind of place we would enjoy but getting to places that are more than walking distance can be difficult as the hotel taxis are very expensive and explaining to tuk tuk drivers where you want to go is often unsuccessful.

I'd like to bring my family -- can you help with taxis/tuk tuk to get us there and back to our hotel? We will be staying at the Sofitel/Centara--if locals arrange transport it seems to work so much better!

A good local place to visit a few times that would serve us proper Thai food would save me having to take chances and you have great tripadvisor write ups!!

With Best Wishes

Dear DrPete

By far your best bet is to organise transport yourself. Depending on the size of your family a tuk tuk or taxi driver can easily be persuaded to take you to Naab Thong, wait there, have a little lunch himself across the road, and then take you back to the Sofitel when you have eaten your fill. I'm sure the Sofitel Concierge can find the economically right driver for you, particularly if you tell him this could become a relatively regular outing.

Visiting the Naab Thong for a person in your circumstances would be a lunchtime delight (in daylight, the trip is interesting and the countryside quite pretty to look at) but a guaranteed dinnertime disaster. There is NO chance of getting a Hua Hin based driver to wait for you in the busiest part of their day and there are NO local taxis, tuk tuks or the like.

One churlish TripAdvisor reviewer made that mistake and was lucky that the restuarant could find a local dignitary to take her entourage back to Hua Hin at 9.30 at night (the restaurant normally closes around 8.00 pm, incidentally). She should have been grateful - but wasn't!

I've beeen visiting the Naab Thong for a while now (no financial interest I can assure you! - just culinary!) and I know you'll all enjoy yourselves there.

If a dog answering to the name of Buster greets you I'll be there too!
Hope to catch up with you!

Best wishes.

Dear DrPete

Easyas has pretty much summed it up. It can be difficult at peak times in the evening to get a cab anywhere away from the centre of town unless you have prebooked a return journey. Happy to guide your driver in by telephone anytime. Just give us a call and pass the driver your phone. Good idea to take the drivers number if you are happy with them and use the same one for the duration of your stay. Most of them will know the restaurant or at least the address.

Ask them to take you to Baan Poo Yai Baan, Nong Pran Puk, Tubtai

Tel Bee 0816 153 613

Look forward to serving you some authentic Thai food

But not today, unfortunately :( - we went to try the pea soup and pancakes at lunchtime, but the cupboard was bare.

Unless we hear otherwise the power outage may last an extra day or at least half a day. Nobody can seem to give anyone in the area a firm answer so we will post when we know more. Hope you enjoyed the tomato soup. Pea soup flew out earlier than expected as our English and American customers seem to enjoy it as well :D Guess we will have to double up on this batch!
