You need to explain (for me, at least) what kind of advice you want.
You need a Bangkok Bank account in Thailand, right?
Why can't you open one?
This is the way

And if you reply "because I am not in Thailand" then I think your stuffed because amongst other things they will need you to sign your application form and provide identity etc.

I guess the easiest way assuming you plan to come and live out here is as and when you arrive walk into any BK bank and open an account. Then instruct you US based bank to send you pension payments direct to the branch you opened your account with

Richard, that may sound easy, but trust me it's not. I've been trying to figure a way to do that for eight years; and I'm still using an ATM to get my monthly payments here.

Really?

My pensions are paid into my UK bank and I then tf monies via the website as and when I want (max time 48 hours)

I have the option of changing that so that they are paid direct into my BK bank in HH BUT that raises a problem regarding residency, tax and indexed linked increments which I will not elaborate on

My friend gets money sent from the US bank and its in his account in 24h or less. Some banks offer better service than others.

As hhfarang says, using the NY branch of Bangkok Bank to transfer retirement funds through to your Bangkok Bank account in Thailand is NOT so simple. I went through the whole procedure with the bank manager here and you have to have a special (different from regular account) Bangkok Bank account to transfer (only) retirement funds to here in Thailand. You can ONLY receive the retirement funds IN PERSON at a Bangkok Bank with your passbook and Passport to ID you. That last requirement made me decide not to do it as I currently can easily ATM money from my US bank at any ATM machine which is much less hassle.

Of course with a regular Bangkok Bank account you can make a bank to bank transfer within the US to the Bangkok Bank branch in NY and the funds will be directly deposited in your regular Bangkok Bank account. I am sure there is a bank fee somewhere in there so the financial advantage of that disappears over the simple ATM transfer.

My pension is paid into Bangkok Bank London and automatically transferred to my bank account here. This was all done on a phone call from here to BB in London. They gave me a reference number to give to my pension providers and that was it!!

At what total cost from your London Bank and Bangkok Bank? I looked at their fees from doing this from the U.S. and it's a bit less than the ATM fees but I don't know what my U.S. Bank would charge for the forwarding which could easily make it more that the ATM fees.

I don't see any charges from BB London as the account is only a vehicle for transferring to Thailand. i.e. No statements, no paperwork and can't be used in any other way. I do know from my pension company how much was transferred to BB London. There are no charges shown on my BB Hua Hin branch and when I calculate the money transferred from my pension provider based on the current exchange rate, it's pretty damn close.
I must say that I opted to do a yearly transfer and not monthly which I'm sure makes a difference.
