Premier League 2011-2012
Re: Premier League 2011-2012
It depends if you're talking World Class players or not, Newcastle haven't got one, the other top sides have got 1 or 2, City possibly more than most.
I'd class Suarez as an outstanding player but agree to an extent, Football has definitely veered towards the big, strong, pacy and athletic over technique, at least in England.
Still plenty of brilliant, technical footballers in England though with the likes of Suarez, Mata, Silva, RVP and Modric.
We've also got the pleasure of watching the outstanding Lionel Messi and Barcelona week in, week out.

When you look back at the games played years ago the players had so much time on the ball and the game was played at a far less furious pace. The modern players would have too much strength and speed for the "old hands" to cope with. Plus, today`s goalkeepers are more athletic and agile. Just look at all the old videos of keepers being routed to the spot compared with those today.

I just read that Spurs are still keen to sign Adeybeyor on a permanent basis but he is looking to keep his Citeh wages (£170,000 a week, nearly £9 million a year with still 2 years to run). If this is true do you Spurs fans think he is worth it?
Re: Premier League 2011-2012
Not in my opinion, don't Spurs generally keep a pretty tight ship (comparatively) on the wage side?
I may be wrong but aren't their top earners on around the 80k mark?

Simple answer is no. But it's a hypothetical question, as Spurs would have to double everyone else's salary.Arcadian wrote:I just read that Spurs are still keen to sign Adeybeyor on a permanent basis but he is looking to keep his Citeh wages (£170,000 a week, nearly £9 million a year with still 2 years to run). And if that isn't enough for a player like Adebayor, who is good but not world class, you have to ask how much damage City's outrageous wage deals are likely to do to the game in the long run.Tottenham are willing to offer Adebayor a basic salary of £100,000-per-week, a range of performance related bonuses and a £4million signing-on fee to clinch the deal.
But it is becoming clear that it will take considerably more to lure Adebayor to White Hart Lane on a long-term contract.
This is the way

Man City weren't the first to pay outrageous wages, they're just the newest (& richest) kid on the blockdtaai-maai wrote: But it is becoming clear that it will take considerably more to lure Adebayor to White Hart Lane on a long-term contract. And if that isn't enough for a player like Adebayor, you have to ask how much damage City's outrageous wage deals are likely to do to the game in the long run.

I agree it's doing damage to the game, becoming more of a business than a sport

It will continue to do so unless the new fair play rules are enforced rigidly.
Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

It`s a mystery.
Can someone please tell me why a club with the best history in English Football, the best player ever to have graced the Premiership as captain(
) A manager who is a king and practically walks on water, and have spent multi-millions on new players, are 31 points off the leaders.

Leaving the BaaBaa wind-ups to one side, it's gone from bad to worse for Liverpool. Newcastle have done much better than I imagined, but I certainly didn't see them finishing above Liverpool. I dare say what will be more painful than anything else is if they manage to finish below Everton.
A lot of the blame must surely go on the amount of money wasted on Carroll.
More crucial to me tonight is to beat Swansea and get back on level terms with the Arse.

For London teams, Easter is interesting, Spuds away to Sunderland, the Arse v Man City and Chelsea v Wigan.
Then the saboteurs v Chelsea, Spuds against Norwich and the Arse away to Wolves, that after a few days break!
Spuds have the easiest run-in (on-paper)!
As for Liverpool, well, Lawrensons musings on the beeb echo my thoughts, that Enrique and Bellamy were good purchases, but questioning what Adams, Henderson, Downing and Carroll have added to the team?
But as this has been such a strange season, on and off the pitch, I guess its best to wait for seasons end before starting to cast judgement, bar this - 3 of the above 4 will never take Liverpool to where they want they want to be!

Yet will still finish the season with more trophies than Arsenal.Arcadian wrote:It`s a mystery.

We've had quite a turbulent few years to be fair, yet we're still expected to challenge.
Don't understand your dig at Gerrard either.
Re: Premier League 2011-2012
What chance Rafa Benitez returning to Anfield in the close season ?
New owners since he was last there.
Until then I do hope that you can manage to stay above the likes of Sunderland,Fulham,Norwich and Swansea before the season ends......

In my opinion Kenny has got to go really. He doesn't seem to know what he's doing on the pitch and can't seem to motivate his players...
One sentence stuck out in the match report which says it all really....
"Under-pressure Dalglish, who has taken Liverpool on their worst run for more than 50 years, said..."
Liverpool must do better than this. The main problem is that they wasted so much money on average (at best) players. If that money was spent a little better and Dalglish got up to date with todays game we would be seeing a very different Liverpool this year I'm sure.

Re: Premier League 2011-2012
Just been watching the replays of the Newcastle V Liverpool game. Two things happened ,in what was a good game of football, that stood out from everything else.
Firstly, Newcastle should have conceded a penalty and had a man sent off (there goes the comfortable 2-0 win straight away) but the referees didn't see that one - shit happens but the replay shows it to be a blatant penalty and red card... ahhh the beauty of replays
Secondly... Andy Carrol needs to be replaced. At best he should be on the bench... Kuyt is far better and more consistent.....ly above average than Carrol is - currently he's crap. There's no arguing that! You know how bad it is when newspapers need to make the sports headline "Carrol played a good 90 minutes" for the day when it happens. If a big tough 'quality' striker like him, (you know the next Alan Shearer and all that
) whilst playing in a very big premiership match, so gracefully gets past two defenders (don't happen much that).... only the keeper to beat in what could be a great goal......nips past the keeper with a deft touch....crowd cheering, ball at his feet with an open goal..... decides to take a dive!!?
Get rid of him now really. Liverpool don't know how to fit him into their style of play and also.... with a player that has lost so much confidence to the point that he dives when there is an open goal opportunity - says it all really. Could be a half decent sub though mind. Definately not a striker of Liverpool's standards I'm afraid.
