Screwed by the Easter Bunny :(

Post by Pleng »

Just a little rant. I hate public holidays which take place at a different time every year! Especially ones which mean the banks are closed for 4 days in a row!!!!

I use an online service to transfer funds to my Thai bank account. The process takes 3 working days. I sent my money on Thursday afternoon, which was Thursday morning back in Blighty, thinking I should have the money by Monday or Tuesday. Next day I find out it's good Friday, which means the money won't be arriving until today or tomorrow. :cuss:

It just goes to show all this 'x working days' nonsense is just a load of horse crap though. The money clearly didn't leave England on Thursday or it would be making its way through the Thai system and would have arrived by now. It's just a way for the banks to hold on to that money for 3 days so they can play with it as they please. It's numbers on a computer, thats all it is. They can press button y and it could be there in an instant.

Grrr I used to think bunnies were cute!

Unless you are really unlucky and it then gets caught up in the Songkran holidays!!

As they say in Thailand, Sabai, Sabai

Ah yes! Well that shouldn't be a problem as I have money going into my English bank tomorrow (I hope!). So if the money doesn't come through it won't be a show stopper. I'll just have to swallow bank's pappy exchange rate and the ATM's 150bt withdrawl fee!

It's not like I left myself without any money, but it did occur when my gf had two days off work, one of which was her birthday (!), and it would have been nice to be able to splash out a bit more :)

Good old banks, eh?
My agents confirmed that they'd got my money last Thursday but needless to say it didn't clear through the UK banks until yesterday. Weekends, Easter, Bank Holidays :banghead:
As a matter of fact The Banking Ombudsman is looking at the clearing system right now and has been doing so for quite a while.
I expect money to move quicker but expect higher charges in return. A no win situation.

Yup. And just to prove the point that the money has been sitting in the hands of the bank in the UK for 3 days, the money mysteriously only came into my account at just after 4pm today, which happens to be around 9am UK time. Funny, that.

I really wouldn't mind, you know... if there was a transparent choice. Exchange rate x for instant transfer, or let us keep hold of it for a few days and get the more favourable rate y. Of course even if that had been the case I'd have still been in the same situation as I hadn't forseen the bank holiday so I'd have gone for the slower option :p

Get over it... this is when you've really been screwed by the Easter Bunny:
The moment child stepped on Easter egg hand grenade

A mother has described the heart-stopping moment her three-year-old son trod on a hand grenade - during an Easter egg hunt.

Abi Sidaway, 31, noticed son Ben standing on a raised object and tried to pick it up with her bare hands because she thought it was an Easter egg.

But she quickly realised what it was and an Army bomb squad was called to the woodland to blow up the rusty grenade - thought to have been there since the World War Two.

The incident happened as Abi took Ben and daughter Ellie, five, to a pre-school chocolate hunt in Holford, Somerset, on Saturday morning.

Mrs Sidaway, who lives with Ben and Ellie in Nether Stowey (corr), Somerset, initially thought the unexploded hand grenade was another EGG to be picked up.

She said: "We had finished the hunt and we just counting up the eggs. Ben and Ellie and I were all holding hands together.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Well the grenade didn't go off. A little shock but no real harm done... pretty much parallels my story if you ask me :D
