Songkran 2012

Post by PeteC »

The silly days are upon us. A thread for your experiences and any photos for this year.

Yesterday was a big getaway day. First of the "seven dangerous days" recorded 30 highway fatalities and 375 injuries. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/nationa ... 79893.html

Leave your house over the next week at your own risk! Pete

I have managed to “adjust” my schedules to avoid being here during Songkran since 2006, but I am in for this one, so I will give it a blast with the kids and thankfully it will be all over and done by dusk.

Songkran road toll rises to 88
Published: 13/04/2012 at 11:13 AM

Online news:

A total of 58 people were killed in road accidents yesterday, the second of the "seven dangerous days" of the Songkran holidays, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported on Friday.

The total holiday road toll rose to 88, from 30 reported on Thursday.

Phichit and Chumphon had the highest number of road fatalities, with five deaths each, followed by Chiang Rai, Suphanburi, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom and Kalasin (three each), the department said.

Binthabat was crazy, with what must have been 100 motorcycles doing the circuit around there - some at high speed. It was amazing that people weren't knocked over, or riders knocked off (I guess there were injuries, just that I never saw them). Also some of the young kids riding around were drinking from whisky bottles. With idiots like that zooming around, it's no wonder people get killed.
