Hi Uktom,

Before sharing your work-ideas with the forum, I would suggest you to make your set-up, marketing & financial planning and study the work permit situation in this country carefully and then, when you're 100% ready, spend a few baht to advertise through the forum. IMHO.

Okay thanks for the advice. I am aware of the work permit/visa situation, that ofcourse is the huge mountain to climb sometimes here.

Legalities aside and not to rain on the parade, but graphic design is something Thais can do well enough. And much more cheaply than falangs.

The employment route is along the lines of:
1) Operate your own business with a work permit (no problem, just open a 2-million baht company and employ four Thais full-time with attendant costs and paperwork);
2) Get hired by an international company (most likely they will transfer in the skilled/experienced person they need);
3) Teach for peanuts, 20-30K/month. Plum teaching jobs in real international school can pay well over 100K/month IF you have an MA, proper teaching cert. and connections.

Work permits can be obtained by the employer but its a pain for them unless they are an int'l company that knows the ropes. Schools will promise it but most often don't come through. Getting a work permit for yourself involves opening a company to do business AND employing Thai people with salaries and benefits.

Thanks for vutting the fat jonnyk in your first of these 2 posts and putting it into 3 categories. Surely though if I do things through my GFs name, ie open some kind of small establishment that would be an option too? Then I would not need to do any of the work permit stuff and c arry on using m ED visa and learning Thai.

Bu the way, no offence but I have heard so so many times that Thai people are meant to be amazing at graphic design. Okay, maybe some are but from what I have seen here over the past few years, it isn't all that amazing for the majority. Of course, this is a different culture and fiferent techniques/styles will ne beeded to appeal to the audience.

Like my friend who worked here as a teacher with nowork permit for quite a while, if I were to make some business cards and then hand them out to people who I know own cafes, resteraunts etc, people I know fairly well, but also maybe do jobs for people over the net abroad, I could get away with that I think.
