65 year old Swiss woman raped and beaten in Cha-am

The victim was found at 17.00 hours on the 17th at the บ้านคันคลองชลประทานชะอำ (canal road, past Bor Fai, amphur Cha-am).

The victim remains in critical condition at San Paolo hospital. There were three attackers who are still at large.

Looks like the same Vincent. But if the attack happened during the night, and she wasn't found until 5 pm, god only knows what state she is in. A truly shocking crime and I hope the lady will make a good recovery soon - physically at least.

I was going to report this yesterday but didn't have a good source or many details. Our recyclers are a Thai couple who come by regularly and pick up anything we have for recycling. They know the woman and they told my wife about it. Evidently the woman was swimming in her pool or sunbathing in her garden and was attacked, raped, and beaten severely. Our recyclers are a nice Thai couple and the man came by himself this time and told us the story and said his wife is sitting in the hospital with the Swiss woman because she is here alone and needed someone to be with her. He said they knew her for a while so she must be a resident, not a tourist.

Mr. Banpot Saardeam, age 34, was arrested by Cha-am police, in Petchburi province after he raped, beat up and burglarised a female Swiss tourist age 65 on April 16, 2012. The incident took at night in a house in Cha-am. The severely injured tourist was admitted to Hua Hin hospital.

It speaks volumes that this attack appears to be getting more exposure elsewhere than in our neighborhood.

One of our teachers lives within shouting distance of this victim. Local talk is that that suspect was a worker at a nearby construction site. Initially the local gossip was that it involved "migrant workers" but that has now changed.

Supposedly they caught the guy and it was one guy not three as I had been told. Also at night during an attempted burglary of the home instead of daytime as I was told.

Well, at least the Police have caught the evil looking perpetrator. That is if we believe what has been reported!

I know if somebody broke into my house at night I would attempt to fight them, but unless you are young and armed with something substantial, it is usually better to give them what they want and save your neck.
Poor old lady should not have been alone in the house. Another good reason to live in a Condo, especially when you get older and may be single. I hope she recovers soon.
