Competitive, Genuine, Health Insurance

Post by bradford »

I am looking for a good value health insurance policy. Problem is, there are so many policies and companies to choose from. There's even one company offering a yearly plan for someone aged 59 years for 3,573 baht per annum. That's £71.46p. Hard to beleive but true. :banghead:

Check with Mat, a sponsor here. Even though I'm not a fan of health insurance and their policies (pun intended), and I generally can't use them because of pre-existing conditions, he is the best representative in the area imo.

Edit: Although, I may be wrong... I just looked through the sponsors list and didn't find him. I think it's AA Insurance.

Welcome to the forum bradford.

I'd advise you to carefully read the exclusions before choosing your insurance.

We actually have a couple of reputable (judging by forum comments) insurance agents who are sponsors of this site. Give these guys a try:

Choosing the best healthcare insurance might look difficult, but for us it is not. As a broker we deal with many companies (as well from Thailand as abroad) offering healthcare insurances so we can offer dozens of plans. And than it's just a matter of looking at:
-budget
-age
-pre-existing conditions
-travel behavior
-other familymembers that need an insurance
-lifetime renewable important
-coverages
etc.
And in the end there is allways 1 best option that suits your needs.
Please feel free to come by our office, we are happy to explain it to you in person.

AA Insurance Brokers
Wong Chomsin Building,
83/14 Phetkasem Road, Office 504,
Hua Hin, Prachuab Khiri Khan, 77110, Thailand.

Mob.: +66 (0)81 0067008
email: huahinaa@hotmail.com
Skype: huahin.aainsure

PS: A healthcare insurance for about 3.5K a year is possible. But than you are looking at very very low limits and for sure it will not help you much if you want to use the Bangkok Hospital. Not advisable, dangerous.

I think a recent case shows how havinga local broker can help--the gentleman who lost his receippts from the hospital, got a copy and the company was very nervous as there were now 2 sets of receipts out there and they could not be sure it was not the person with the originals asking for reimbursement--a local broker could help by identifying the policy owner.

Might have to give them a try when our policies come up for renewal - my wife has a BUPA Thailand policy which is not cheap, and i have a BUPA International policy which definitely costs more per month than my wife's policy annual cost.
Will they be able to give comparable benefits to the BUPA policies?

Mat has an insurance company out of France that he sent me quotes for and they seemed to be very reasonable and had coverage comparable to any policy I've ever had (including Blue Cross U.S.A) which I think may be the same company as BUPA Thailand. My problem is pre-existing conditions so I haven't taken a policy yet but it looked like as good as you can get anywhere (and much lower cost than anything I could get from an American company).

I've been with this company for over a year now via Matt at AA.
Within the first month of cover I had an accident in a boatyard in Pattaya which required an immediate operation on my knee for a severed tendon.
At that stage I had still not received my policy documents and the temporary documents I did have were at home here.
All this happened around 9 p.m. but I was able to reach Matt by phone who was able to reassure the hospital, fax copies and put the hospital in touch with the French company's Thai representative, with the result that I got my operation without having to pay first and everything was sorted out by the next morning.
The hospital then settled direct with the insurance company which, incidentally, was able to reduce the hospital costs by more than 1/3 of the original estimate quoted to me by the hospital!!

There was no loading imposed because of this on renewal of my policy this year, only an adjustment to take account of exchange rate fluctuation as the premium has to be paid in US$.

I like these rates Paulsimkiss. If I was to go with my current employers' health insurance when I retire, then I would be paying over 3,000 USD just for me, no wife and no children.

Thank you for the website address.

I checked a few companies while I was still in Europe, before moving to Hua Hin.
Finally I decided to go for BUPA as they seemed to have a solid international reputation, and could cover for international travel.
If you go for BUPA, go to the Thailand division (they have an office in Hua Hin) as I compared prices with BUPA representative offices in Europe, and it saved me a lot of money for exactly the same cover.
I guess this has to do with the reduced medical costs in Thailand compared to Europe.

Look at that rate jump between 59 and 60... what happens after 64?

They don't insure people over 65 is my guess. Seen it on other policies offered to expats.

Yes, where is there a coherent and focused discussion of "Competitive, Genuine, Health Insurance" for newcomers to Thailand? Age 60.

Please feel free to contact us (details a few posts below) and we can give or mail you a comparison between 10 good plans we can offer so you can compare premiums and coverages very easily. Most companies that offer a lifetime renewable policy do have a maximum entry age, 60 however is not a problem at all.
