Offering to 10,101 monks at 6 am. Many posters erected a few weeks ago but now removed I think. I took a photo but not sure how to upload from my phone

Apparently it's in order to celebrate Hua Hin's 101st birthday?

When I went for B;fast at 9am I was concerned that PK would be closed--but surprise, the traffic was flowing--Apparently the parade started at 5am.
I think this is a good precedent, when they want to close a road--do it at 5am.

You just missed it then Dr Michael.
I was heading down Petchkasem into town at about 8am and the northbound lane was closed off from Soi 51 to the lights at the Tessabahn. At that time of morning there weren't any snarl-ups and the traffic was flowing OK in both direction in the southbound lane.
It was quite a spectacle. I've never seen so many monks and novices assembled in one place before. They were seated at least 7-8 abreast all the way from Soi 51 to well after Bangkok/Kasikorn Banks with hordes of people after waiting to give alms.
Wish I'd had my camera.

Here are photos. I understood it had connections with a celebration for the King - but may have got lost in translation. :|
Think I have added to the post.

Well it's definitely related to Hua Hin's 101st anniversary. And Monday and Tuesday are apparently 'Labour Day'. I don't really know what that means, other than the it's (another!) public holiday.

Tuesday is May 1, May Day, and a holiday. Monday is normal as far as I know but suppose many take it off to make it a 4 day weekend. Why Thailand celebrates May Day one can only guess. Perhaps to appease the communist insurgents during peace talks many decades ago. Pete

The May Day celebration has nothing whatsoever to do with 'communist insurgents'. The Labour Day holiday has been celebrated globally since 1891. The date was chosen to commemorate those who lost their lives in Chicago in 1886, when workers demonstrated to support their claim for an eight-hour working day. The holiday is now recognised in approximately 80 countries, and is a meaningful day off for all those livelihood is, or was, dependent upon the benevolence of an employer.

You are correct cadacus. I'm just spouting the anti-communist rhetoric from my childhood. It is interesting though that it all started because of an event in the USA, but there it's celebrated in September, not on May 1. Reasons why are explained below in Chapter 7, around page 130-140. Pete

..seems odd then that it should be celebrated in Thailand; don't see too many Thais working an 8 hour day!

You're absolutely right Pleng... most Thais work a 10-12 hour day.

My gardener and all the Thais I've hired refuse to work more than 5 to 6 hours a day...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

To be honest in that heat I don't blame them, but seems like you've got a bad bunch. Most Thais I know work a minimum of 10 hours a day

(mind you they don't work outdoors...)
