thermometers

Post by barrys »

Does anyone know of anywhere locally where I can buy normal thermometers to put on the wall of a room in the house/on patio.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Barry,

I had also problems to find one. All over Hua Hin I had no success, not even in Homepro.

But then my wife found it in Pranburi. When you come from Hua Hin at the third light, the big crossing with many shops and chaotic parking. You go left, direction Pak Nam Pran and on the right side, the 2. or 3. shop has it for 20 or 40 Baht.

Strange that you mentioned this Barry because just the other day I was thinking about the fact that one never seems to see them for sale over here. I wouldn't mind getting one or two myself.

We could not find one here either so bought one whilst back in the UK! The Mercury "blew" itself up after a couple of weeks here so to find one locally would be great!

I found mine in a small shop on the second floor in the old shopping mall. Shop also sells cards and souvenirs. This was two years ago but it may still be there. Give it a try!

Test whatever you get. Apparently they're not made with mercury any longer. Whatever the substance is in there it sometimes does not work. I got a supposedly reputable brand from True Value and it won't go above 30C even in the sun. It won't go below 20C even in the frig. Bloody junk.

Perhaps the expanding/contracting metal spring type with dial face is a better bet. Pete

Barry...if you're ever at the Grand Market (or know of anyone going there) the lady that has the 'Gizmo-stall' in the top-corner selling all sorts of stuff has 3 or 4 different designs...I got a round magnetic one for inside our beer-fridge. (I bet you buy summat else from her while you're there..always something to catch the eye in her
Gizmo-Grotto'..5-5!)

Nice Canadian touch.

You will be glad to know that for those cooler mornings--they do go down to -40.

And by the way -40 is where Centigrade and Farenheit give the same number--but if its -40 you've got more on your mind than this little mathematical trivia fact.

Try Old Shopping Mall at stall to the right of the entrance to the market from the parking lot. Stall has lots of watches and some clocks. Used to have a thermometer or two a year or two ago. Also one on kiosk on third floor of MV coming from escalator to movies back to the cell phone, electronics area--last kiosk on left before big cell phone area. They have at least one on display and may have more.

Thank you all for your advice and tips.

Followed Pitsch's suggestion today and the gf found them at the shop in Pranburi he mentioned - made in Taiwan.

Again, thanks for all your help
