What do Thais know about Hitler? Nada!GLCQuantum wrote:Baa Baa said...
Actually Baa Baa I was quite suprised to the fact that Thai's do recognise the tilted symbol as one of hatred. This of course was the reason the symbol was chosen originally by Hitler. A sign of peace, understanding and mutualality which, when altered slightly, becomes a symbol of the opposite.Thais would probably presume it's the Buddhist symbol.
I myself do a double take when I see the symbol tattooed on Thai's... of course the correct way up.

No. The symbol was invented/changed by themselves so it didn't mean anything of the sort until they started using it in their way.Clarification needed. Are you saying Hitler chose the 'slightly altered' swastika because it was a symbol of hatred?
German nationalists originally used the symbol to make up for how vulnerable they felt in relation to the outside world, along with the stigma of youth. Whoops, let's not use the 'Y' word again eh!
The swastika became became more popular towards the end of the 19th Century even becoming the symbol for their gymnast league - just as popular and known within a country as, say, the Barclays Premier League emblem is now.
In the twentieth Century it was mostly seen as a sign for youth movements or antisemetic groups.
In the early 1900's or whenever it was, Hitler decided he wanted his own little emblem but, without the abundance of Graphic Design Specialists that are at hand today, decided to nick an already stolen and changed 'logo' for his campaign. His Ideals behind it... using such ramblings as 'a symbol of our own struggle' were of course obviously misplaced to the normal modern day man.
To cut short, the symbol predominantly and openly signified anti-semitism which in today's language translates as hatred. Of course he didn't choose the symbol himself to mean hatred but, as you well know it means just that now.

I am not defending a Nazi-guy here. Also personally I have really had it with PC, that causes too many criminals to walk where I come from, BUT still you should not jump to conclusions gentlemen.Spitfire wrote:Roel wrote:Objection your honour. We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

The poor girl certainly did not deserve it, but let's not forget that, had the roles been reversed, the outcome could have been equally, if not more gruesome. How many foreigners have met their maker because they were caught cheating, or because they found out their wives were cheating? I personally don't believe an isolated case like this will cause the average Thai to begin hating westerners. If fact, you might be surprised at what they think about.
I agree with Roel, in that we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions, and besides, if he was really a BAD guy, then one can only wonder why she got involved with him in the first place. Birds of a feather flock together, and all that good stuff.....

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
Re: Manic German Stabs Bargirl to Death
I have never seen anyone in person wear the swastika as a fashion statement. I think we can safely assume a German national knows the swastika represents Nazism and violence.
He confessed, and I would bet the blood DNA on his car matches hers.
I say he's bad, but that's just me.

Probably correct, but definitely irrelevant.advocate wrote:I say he's bad, but that's just me.

The only relevant opinion will be that of the judge who sentences him.
Re: Manic German Stabs Bargirl to Death
Yes, and he (the judge) might not have much of a sense of humour for the psycho Nazi as he butchered some Thai in public in an egotistical tantrum for being in contact with someone on the net........advocate wrote:The only relevant opinion will be that of the judge who sentences him.

I was just ribbing Roel with some well placed sarcasm and he answered truthfully and credit to him (I too have had it with the PC bollox), perhaps my cynicism got the better of me on that one despite the reply's humour and obvious connotations, plus resonance in a modern world in which many have tired of such nonsense.
He (the Nazi) is probably done man, and will do some time in the prison service here. They will, after he's done some time here, have his arse rightly deported from these shores. I don't know about it, but maybe there's some sort of teutonic law that will reign the scumbag in after he gets back to the shores of Germany.
However, forgive my cynicism, but he could just pay 300k or whatever baht to the cops and relatives.......and then walk.
You all know how it is....depends how rich he is............sadly and reprehensibly.

I agree. But her family could also take his money and then after use it to have him disposed of Thai style. Life is cheap here and some would consider it an honor.

I can't really imagine him buying himself out of this, however much money he might have. Certainly if that happens the Thai justice system is worse than I thought.advocate wrote:I agree. We do see it happen with HiSo Thai brats of course - those with influential families. But a farang? Very doubtful IMO.
But if he does manage to pull it off advocate I think you're right - he wouldn't last long in the LOS.
Of course if he is known to be off his trolley I guess the German government could put a case for his return, or at least mitigate. I suspect there are a fair number of farang who are so unstable they can't work back home, and maybe roam around drawing their own countries sickness benefits or whatever and slipping the radar.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
Re: Manic German Stabs Bargirl to Death
Yes agreed magretcarnes and there is also a big representation of just plain bad-arsed foreigners who have lead a life of total destruction back at home and have ended up in s.e asia as it's the only place left for them where they still continue to treat the world like sh*t.margaretcarnes wrote: I suspect there are a fair number of farang who are so unstable they can't work back home, and maybe roam around drawing their own countries sickness benefits or whatever and slipping the radar.
May the young lady, who was very probably a sole parent and a supporting mother, RIP.

Yes, Deepee, unfortunately there seem to be more and more of these types. Benefit scroungers, violent drunks, wife beaters, criminal outlaw biker types, and now it seems the nazis are here too.
Most of these would never be allowed to emigrate to 1st world countries. A tropical destination and lax immigration control seems to attract them like flies.

Re: Manic German Stabs Bargirl to Death
Also, perhaps the rubbish is being cornered world-wide these days into places that have no or hard-to-enforce extradition treaties. I remember someone on another thread mentioning that once Spain and the UK got their act together on the extradition front Spain was no more the UK criminal's hide-out/escape paradise on the 'Costa del crime' etc and that many have fled with their shady money and businesses to places like Southeast Asia where they can still do it. I'm sure many are still there but many will have left to further afield.
When you think of it, the number of places like SE Asia that are attractive places to live with lax law enforcement regimes where you can get away with almost anything is fast dwindling. Sure there are lots of places still but not so many with all the ingredients right for this. Plus many places are facing interal unrest which weren't before.
Previous places that would have been OK in the past are now not, even the perps are choosy about being able to 'pull their MO' in safety plus the lunatics also like it too.
Examples......
Mexico.......No
Europe........No, not really now like 20-25 years ago
South America..........No, they are going through change and being a gringo there is dangerous now.
Russia.......No
Philippines.......perhaps, but it's a dirty and dangerous in a lot of places. Not to mention very unpredictable serious weather with crime that's sky-high.
There is nowhere that is such a magnet as SE Asia and Thailand is the obvious choice within. You can scratch all the commie countries like Vietnam/China/Laos along with most of the African countries due to one reason or another.
So, really, it's not surprising that all the nut-jobs and perps are ending up here when you think about it......sadly.
