Austrian Airlines
Does anyone have any experience flying Austrian Airlines from LHR to BKK??
Am flying the old dear (88 yrs. young next month) out for a holiday in August and can't put her in the back of the bus and AA seem to be doing the best deal on a business class ticket at that time, well not including the low cost and Indian/South Asian carriers that is, as I don't think the old girl would much appreciate multiple stops and/or a transit through Mumbai!!
Any feedback, good, bad or indifferent appreciated.

Re: Austrian Airlines
I've just booked a non stop flight with Eva Air, through Mox Travel in Bangkok, for 38,000Baht in August.
It's Bangkok to Heathrow but might be of interest to you.

Thanks for the info. nanyang, but as I understand it Mox Travel only deal in flights originating from BKK and not the other way around.nanyang wrote:I've just booked a non stop flight with Eva Air, through Mox Travel in Bangkok, for 38,000Baht in August.

Re: Austrian Airlines
If it is of any interest I booked EVA through a company called Holiday Genie for September at £540.00 each Heathrow to BKK about 30 mins ago
That price included CC charges.

Always seems cheaper LHR to BKK as opposed to BKK to LHR

Re: Austrian Airlines
I often book with Star Alliance from Luxembourg to Bangkok and on the way back it's often with Austrian from Bangkok to Vienna and then onwards with Luxair. I've no real complaints about Austrian, it's pretty similar to what you would get with any other European national carrier and whilst Vienna airport is dated, it has what you need and I never had any long delays with security or anything of that nature.Does anyone have any experience flying Austrian Airlines...
As for the flight, they have some strange ideas about seat colour schemes and what constitutes a breakfast but they're not exactly major problems and I assume an Austrian national thing rather than an airline issue.

Re: Austrian Airlines
Thanks to all for your input, certainly doesn't seem to be anything untoward to worry about.

Re: Austrian Airlines
I have taken AA a few times to BKK. Business class seats are a bit dated and look more comfy than the are. And the inflight entertainment system dates back to the 80th it seems. But in general they are fine.

Re: Austrian Airlines
I have flown AA (Austrian that is, not to be confused with AA = American Airlines) a couple of times. It seems a bit old-world and stuffy. The fleet is relatively old, too. The stewardesses are correct and clean, just as German Lufthansa. The food is edible but nothing to write home about. Much like British Airways.

Re: Austrian Airlines
Just as an update, sometimes it can pay to drag your feet. I held off booking Austrian Airlines due to some unrelated issues, then was just about to go and book the flights when I got a flyer from BA advertising a limited time up to 50% discount in Business and First Class, so instead of booking the tickets on Austrian at about £1,800 each, booked the same dates with BA, except of course direct flights no changing in Vienna, for £1,250 each, including all taxes and surcharges, happy days

Re: Austrian Airlines
Hi there Aragon and all HHAD fellas.
I have flown several times with OS (= Actual IATA coding for Austrian Airlines) before on my trips from Berlin to Bangers via Vienna. Yeah I had the same thought as fellow HHAD fellas that OS Aircrafts are rather old and loud. The reason for that some of These Airplanes belonged to Niki Lauders Lauda Air than he sold it to AUA (The parent Company of Austrian Airlines = OS). Than these planes where repainted, refitted with new Seats with Displays equipped to made it look like new!
The inflight service was mediaocre at best with Stewart and Stewardesses sometimes being off o
And odd about things!
One incident I clearly will not forget. I was just about to turn in after my decent not the best in-flight meal ever and was about to dose off than that Stewardess came along tapped on me Shoulder which shocked the hibbie jibbies outta me. Than she with her typical Austrian dialect. "Wollen sie Tee?Would you like some tea?" The following almost slipped my tongue after I got shocked tapped! "Sie können sich ihren Tee sonst wo hinschieben." translated: "You could shove your Tea up else"! But I took my tea and watched an inflight Movie which was "Sweeney Todd -The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." after that I tried to turn in again!

Re: Austrian Airlines
There have been countless threads on various airlines - maybe we should start a combined thread? Call it something like "Airlines - The Good, Bad & The Ugly" And merge current threads to it.
Anyways, I've not flown Austrian Airlines myself, but have heard they are on the whole reliable, with good service although the fleet is getting on...... much the same with a happy marriage in the latter years I guess
