A friend of mine has had stomach trouble for about 3 weeks, first tried pharmacy, still no good after a week, then San Paolo twice - still nothing solid! Went to Hua Hin hospital yesterday, had a full examination by a doctor asking many questions - was told a stool sample was required and appointed for 2 days later. The cost including medication was 77 baht (i jest not), San Paolo had charged over 1000 baht for a consultaion that was totally useless. My friend goes back tomorrow with his stool, and they will find out exactly what inefection he has.
This guy has been here for 5 years and he said they provided a top classs service.

Have read a lot of posts regarding San Paulo & HH hospital. Quite honestly, I don't think much of either after my recent experiences. I'll admit I'm probably seeing things in a skewed way, and maybe no hospital was at fault, but I have problems with both after my boyfriend's death in March.
He wasn't living with me, when he was admitted to Hua Hin hospital. His landlady phoned me, as he was expected to look after himself, but wasn't able to. My boyfriend was an alcoholic and had cirrhosis of the liver. He'd tried hard to stay off the booze and would for months, but when he fell off the wagon, he fell hard & I thought this was alcohol related when I went to see him.
HH hospital told me he had asthma (no previous history) & the nurses could only cope with medical matters, so this guy who could hardly breathe was supposed to do everything from wash himself to administer his own oxygen.
We moved him to San Paulo immediately & he was put into ICU. I got a call from them that night, saying that he should be moved to Thonburi in BKK & that he might not live. I went up with him that night & spent much of the next 2 weeks living in the ICU waiting room, with him in a coma.
Oh, the "asthma" was diagnosed as double pneumonia in Thonburi & he was on a respirator for the rest of his life.
After 10 days in Thonburi and a lot of problems with his health, he regained conciousness. He was still on a ventilator & never spoke to me again, but they were hopeful of his recovery & with his consent we arranged to move him back to San Paulo.
We came back on Saturday morning. He died at 11pm on Sunday night. Massive organ failure.
A huge part of the blame lies with his lifestyle, I know that. If he had been physically stronger, the outcome might have been different. But I can't help but question the diagnoses & treatments he received in the HH based hospitals. For the record, I thought Thonburi were wonderful & went out of their way for him & for me.

Note: This is an old thread, but as only five posts on it thought it wouldn't be too confusing.

Samitivej is the best hospital I've ever been in by miles. If we end up getting something near that quality we can burn all the others down. From The Nation, May '08
Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BGH):
The BGH group has 19 hospitals with a combined total of 2,959 beds. Bangkok Hospital has 13 hospitals with 2,018 beds, Samitivej Hospital has 3 hospitals with 775 beds, BNH Hospital has 86 beds and Royal International has two hospitals with a total of 80 beds.
Group management has said there are no major investment plans in the near future although several small projects are in the pipeline. These include the Royal Phnom Penh Hospital with 100 beds, which will be opened in late 2009. The Royal Bangkok Abu Dhabi Hospital with 30 beds, which will be in operation next year, and Bangkok Hua Hin Hospital with 50 beds, which will be opened in 2010
