A dip in the klong...

Post by Vital Spark »

While we were away in the UK in April there was a bit of excitement just outside our house.

Our lovely landlord was polishing he spirit table at the front of our house and heard a splash...

Word soon got round the neighbourhood and onlookers arrived. This is the view from our house.

Three tow trucks arrived and tried to get the stricken Bentley out of the klong. Notice that it's still daylight and there appears to be a lot of people not doing much.

Apparently, they tried this way and that, and finally a tow truck hauled it out using our driveway. Why didn't they use a crane?

It's dark now, and the onlookers must have been very patient. But it's OK. Not a dent on the bodywork.
It's all right.jpg
The driver got out without a scratch, but I can't help feeling sorry for him. To watch your 32 million baht pride and joy sink in a klong must have been heartbreaking.

Wow - quite a story and the pics to back it up!

I guess the only consolation is if you can afford one in the 1st place, well you know the rest.

Wasn't a premiership footballer was it?

No, it was a boxer. He was on the phone with his manager who told him he had to take a dive at his next fight. Boxer thought he said 'next right'.

Who knows who's passing our house, Caller.

Coincidently, I happened to be reading the online version of the East Anglian Daily Times today (because it's my old stomping ground), and guess what...

Two people were taken to hospital after a car ended up in a pond outside the Snape Maltings concert hall.
The drama happened late on Saturday evening as the car ended up in the pond, which is near a parking area at the maltings complex.
A police spokeswoman said no one was thought to have been injured in the accident but the two occupants of the car were taken to hospital for a check-up because they were badly shaken up.
Fire crews from Orford, Saxmundham, and Leiston were called to the incident and helped the two occupants of the car into an ambulance.
The car is expected to be recovered from the pond on Sunday.

Three fire engines, and the car was recovered the next day! We know how to get things sorted in Thailand.

Sorry V.S. but every time I look at that Bentley, I just cringe at the criminal waste of a beautiful motor car!

So do I, Terry. A beautiful piece of engineering that's going to need a lot of TLC (and money) to bring it back to its former self. The electronics will haunt him, if he decides to keep it.

One other little thing, (which didn't show up on the photos) it was a 'red plate'.

The bank just before our house was extended out into the klong, and the heavy machinery broke away the surface as they were doing the work. At least once a week we have a motorcycle rider falling off outside our gate. It gets the dogs a bit excited, and the last faller grazed his leg, so I used up all my medical stuff pouring Benzodine on the wounds and patching him up. He was being a bit of a 'big girl's blouse' as his wounds were superficial, but he appreciated getting a bit of attention. :|

The wounds are healing slowly, thank you, but the street cred... I mean...
