According to initial reports, the accident occurred when the bus tried to overtake a 10-wheel truck and was hit on the left when that truck changed lanes to overtake another truck in front of it.
This is responsible for a large percentage of accidents on the highways here.

With only two weeks driving xperience @ LOS, I'v learned to respect and fear everything with dual rear wheels or yellow plates on the road. (and of course flying rooftops). BTW, why does those VIP buses often drive in tight convoys, tailgating each another. It's real PIS to overtake them.

Unfortunately not something special to Thailand. Happens all over Europe. Spanish fruit haulers seem particularly ruthless on the Trans-European freeways.

If you're going fast enough to overtake them, you're probably going too fast!
