Hi, I'm Jenny and my husband is John. We're from Brighton, England and we're moving out to Hua Hin in December 2012.
We're both so looking forward to living in paradise (or near as damnit).
I've read so much on this site before joining, and most of my questions have been answered. I thought it was important to join, as it could be a good way to make contacts and friends before we arrive.
Early retirement can't come quickly enough.
I can see the forum has a lot of members and it'll take a long time to get to every topic, but I'm enjoying working my way round it.
Hi Jenny, you and your husband are on the right path. I have been here for almost eight years and I couldn't imagine going back. Hua Hin is a laid back beach town and if you two get bored Bangkok is just a quick two + hours away which is one of the most exciting cities in the world!
I've been here a few years and never looked back. Loads of info and advice on the forum and occasionally some of the 'not so shy' ones meet up and have a face to face
I have a good friend from Brighton who has recently retired here. Antique dealer, You may know him.
Anyway once again WELCOME
RICHARD OF LOXLEY
It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.
Welcome Jenny and John. Everything you need to know can be found on here. If you cant find it, just ask away.
Im presuming you have visited Hua Hin before?
I hope the move goes well for you and you settle in really quickly.
Welcome to the forum RAGE_715. I'm sure you will enjoy Hua Hin and Thailand. Brighton is a great place, I spent two very enjoyable summers there as a teenager in 1975 and 1977.
Thanks for your friendly replies. We've been to Hua Hin a few times and it was a toss up between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai, but I really wanted to be beside the seaside, beside the sea.
My brother in law lives in Bangkok (for 20 years) so we've been there many times but we couldn't live there.... too hot and too frantic. He's married to a Thai so we're hoping she'll translate lots for us because languages are not our strongest point.
One thing to ask... border runs.... which I think I'll need to do if I can't go on John's retirement visa... as I'll still be under 50 (only just) ...any suggestions as to cheapest or best way to do this?

What BB has said is correct. Age dosn't matter, marital status does.
So, bring you marriage certificate over and then speak to Imm in HH to ask what they want to see. It's possible that an affirmation from The British Embassy, translations, and paperwork from The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be necessary but that isn't a daunting task.
After your husband has his retirement extension, you'll get your annual dependent extension and there's no need for border or visa runs.
IMPORTANT - make sure you come with a Non Immigrant O visa which is what both of you will need to get annual extensions off. It's possible to convert to a Non O here in Thailand from a tourist visa or even a 30 day visa exempt stamp, but it'll just be much easier to arrive with the correct visa.
If your marriage certificate is in English then there is no need for a translation however Hua Hin immigration now requires an Affirmation from the Embassy in Bangkok - easy enough to get.
