Hua Hin Information for Expat

Hello All, I am a UK expat looking to semi retire with my wife to Hua Hin within the next 12 months. I am completely sold on the idea, but the Mrs is not 100% yet. I intend to visit in September with a view to looking at properties to buy, not too close to the beach, must be expat friendly, gated/secured community etc. If anyone can give me any locations that have good current or future developments, I would really appreciate that or any other info. Recommend that you rent for 6 months while you fully convince the Misses. If you buy and it doesn't work out, selling is most difficult. Also need more info about your requirements and interest. Beach, mountains, golf, close in, far out, quite, price range, level of security, how much of the year will you occupy, etc. You will find lots of Property Agents who will gladly take you around for a look and you can research some photos before you set out to save time. If your wife is not sure about moving to Thailand then I would most certainly recommend that you rent when you first come here. You do not say if you wife is Thai, if so the move will be easier for her but if she is from the UK then she must be certain before you commit yourselves. I love the life here but it is not for all western women and I have known several who have had a really tough time - most of whom are no longer here.

Thanks for the info, no my wife is very much a Yorkshire lass - we have moved around the world due to my Forces background so she can adapt. But holiday in Sept for a good luck and then if all goes well we will rent for a wee while. Jim

It is very good advice.
For what its worth, my wife is a yorkshire lass and she loves it in HH, but unfortunately we cant live there...yet. Hopefully in a few years

You can rent a house quite cheaply (15-25K) especially if you agree to stay several months and its good advice to do so before you tie up money. In 6 months you can learn a ton about HH and make an informed choice of home and location.
Don't rush, there is a lot to choose from.

As Moja rightly says it doesn't suit all farang women. Some have hightailed it quickly back home, leaving their hubbys behind to tough it out!
A Forces background should help, although that isn't quite the same because there are usually plenty of other Forces wives around to mix with. And HuaHin is only a tiny bit of Thailand.
Personally I think you need to chuck her in at the deep end - sounds a bit harsh - but if a farang woman can immediately take to the bigger places like Bangkok, as well as the smaller towns, you are in with a chance IMO. Your wife should maybe see what is available in Bangkok shopping and food wise and know she can escape HuaHin now and then if she needs a change. Most importantly IMO she needs to be able to get on with Thai women. Living in gated secure compounds isn't the real world there - although many farang couples do it these days.

The guys have advised absolutely right, if it doesnt work out then selling is pretty tough as most of our customers want a new built house. As you have moved about quite a bit its likely that you will be very very happy here - its a trully great place to live

Topmanjdc..if you're coming in September then you should beat the sesonal-rush to rent houses created annually by the Skandi's..a good choice of prices & locations should be available.
