alternative to hua hin..thung wua laen beach

At the moment i live at thung wua laen also known as cabana beach its about a 4 hour driv from hua hin and 20min drive from chumphon

Its a great little spot, often take a ride out there. There are also some nice beaches a little way north ...

Its agreat little spot to live especially if you have a wife or g/f,it can be a bit on the quiet side,but there are 8 or 9 beach bars(sorry guys no bargirls) 4 or 5 restaurants/cafes and thai and when the skandis come to town in oct to feb a few seasonal german places open up.
Tescos,makro and big c are a 20 min ride away,baht bus to town every half hour and immigration are in tescos once a month for 90 day reports.
Most days you have the beach to yourself tyo swim or walk.
At the moment there is a small permanent expat community of about 40.
2 reasonable golf courses within 25km drive and 400bht a round and can choose to take caddy or not.
Internet is fast enough for me to live stream footballgames from oz and access to truvision cable ,i rent a fully furnished 4bed home 2 baths with nice garden for 14000 a month long term and am 80metre walk to beach and cafes

The local thais don't seem to try to rip u off as much down here as well,i left a reasonable tip at a restaurant one time and she chased me down the road saying no need to tip,please come again.
.The locals don't speak alot of english and may come across as rude(scared to have to talk in english)but a smile goes along way and is returned.
The roads are wide and well looked after and the beaches have signs saying no jetskis,umbrellas or hawkers allowed, both in thai and english.
There are 2 resorts on the beach and one tucked away,well worth a look.

jingjoe - can you recommend a place near this beach? Thinking about a trip down and 1 night - will be with the Long Haired General and Mother-in-Law. Clean, bathroom, power, restaurant/bar nearby the only requirements....... 5 star (and girlies) certainly not required.

Or would you recommend staying in Chumphon?

Usually go to Chumporn two or three times a year to get off the tourist beat.

Usually stay at Novotel as it's handy with the golf course in the hotel grounds.

However, always make a point of driving the half hour to Thung Wua Laen beach as it's the best beach around and, as you say pretty much unspoilt. Easy drive, well signposted and good roads. Think they play a part in the annual Marine Festival and a few extra stalls selling usual 'festival fare'?

If you don't want to go to into/through Chumporn town and prefer to go staright to Thung Hua Laen, you can save a few litres of petrol by turning left at Pathio (pronounced 'part you' or something like that).

Think the best hotel on Thung Hua Laen beach is supposed to be Chumporn Cabana, but have heard it's seen better days. Wracking my brains to remember on place I've seen (and eaten at) that has the resort on one side of the road and restaurant on the other, but the name escapes me. Perhaps jingjoe can jog my memory.

As posted, good fish and other seafood less than half the price of Hua Hin/Cha-am all around Chumporn, including here. Recommended.

there are a variety of places to stay,albatross guesthouse ph 085 883 6366 is about a 10min walk to beach clean rooms,nice thai manager(phorn) 500bht a night.They are having a water supply problem at the moment so might want to check with them first.
Cabana beach resort was the first resort on the beach, i don't know a lot about it looks ok.
Nana beach resort is the newest half way along the beach looks very nice have a special at the moment 900bht a night inc breakfast ph 0805306674 www.nanaburihotel.com,nice pool and position.
Theres another nice resort not far from beach called armonia village,great pool and chalets not sure of contact nos. i think rooms start at 2500bht,they have all you can eat pizza plus one free lager on sat nights for 250bht authentic italian crispy crust
I would definitely stay on the beach and not chumphon.

Love this thread - Jingjoe's getting excited about moving to Hua Hin, and we're all planning our long weekends at Thung Wua Laen!

Stayed at Nanaburi resort last January. Can highly recommend it, very nice modern bungalows, service very good and helpful, good buffet style breakfast. No food in the evening but plenty of small cheap restaurants along the beach.

Nothing much to do entertainment wise in the evenings except eat and drink!!!!!

Looked in at the Chompon Cabbana at the other end of the beach while we were there. Now is very tired and run down looking.

Played Golf at the Novotel 9 hole course, think it was B500 for 18 plus caddy. Not worth making a special visit for but ok if you are in the area.

Would definitely go back to Thung Wua Laen Beach for a week-end but would get bored if staying longer.

Hi JJ I am currently in Chumpon having a well earnred rest from all the crap in Phuket.I have been on Thung wua laen beach the last 2 days.What a refreshing change from the crowded beaches of Phuket.
I have been driving around for days now looking for somewhere to rent but have not seen anywhere.Can you tell me how you found your house please
