Mislaid Departure Card
Hi there,
I have done a trawl of the forum but don't seem to be able to find the answer to what I'm looking for.
My wife travel on a multi entry O visa and is imminently applying for her Retirement Vias. However, we seem to have mislaid her "immigration departure card". Can anyone advise "is this the end of the world as we know it" or can one be simply reissued by the Thais or the British Embassy.............. or is she going to have to start hiding in dark corners like an illegal immigrant...??? lol
Any help on this would be gratefully accepted.

Re: Mislaid Departure Card
No idea !
But I would have thought that a trip to immigration on the khlong road might solve it - as the departure date should be stamped in the passport anyway.............

Agree with the above.
Your wife's entry stamp will show a "permitted to stay" date, so as long as she hasn't gone over that Imm should be OK. However, I think it's important that you clear it up with Imm asap because a copy of that departure card is required for an annual extension. It may be that they'll throw the onus on you to contact the point of entry to check the arrival date.
I'm not 100% sure about this but get to Imm asap and talk to them about it.

Re: Mislaid Departure Card
Slightly off topic but hopefully it will ease your worries until you get to immigration. A couple of months ago I had to leave Thailnd unexpectedly and was going to be away when my 90 day trip to Imm was due. Took my departure card out of my passport to take a copy for my wife to visit Imm (which turned out to be totally unnecessary) but in my rush forgot to put the departure card back in my passport and didn't realise until I got to the airport. I was faced with either trying to explain what I had done, or complete a new departure card before going to the immigration desk. I opted for the latter and had no problems leaving and on my return, I completed a new arrival card again with no questions asked. I would hope therefore that this won't be a big issue for your wife either and as already advised, would recommend you go to Imm in HH and explain what happened and all will be resolved - I am sure you will update us with the outcome.phartley58 wrote:Hi there,

Re: Mislaid Departure Card
last year i forgot my departure card for a land exit. They told me that i had to go to my place of entry to get a new one.
They and i knew that that was BKK and i was 500 km away from there After 10 minutes or so of trying to work out a solution he went off and made a phone call and came back and gave me a new one to fill out.
If that was true, then it would seem as long as you are leaving from the same place it shouldnt be a problem. Also, and this could be the most important point, where i was leaving from, there were no arrival / departure cards lying around, so i had to go to the desk to ask for one..... So they knew they had me....

I would think there are retired expats here whose departure card is 10 years old or more. It may be dust by the time the person has to leave for some reason.
Perhaps best to remove from passport and store in some cool, dry place if one carries their passport locally. Pete

I remember going into Burma a few years ago with a crusty ten-year-old TM card ... that raised a few eyebrows, but also a few smiles!

Only trouble is trying to remember where that "safe place that I'll never forget" is 10 years down the line might be a bit tricky!prcscct wrote: Perhaps best to remove from passport and store in some cool, dry place if one carries their passport locally. Pete

What to do: leave it blank.
What not to do: "Sorry officer, I have no return flight, what should I write here?"

Re: Mislaid Departure Card
A friend mislaid her card in 2011 and Immigration sent her to the cop shop downtown. A nice female constable at the front desk checked her passport and gave her some kind of note which she took back to Immig and they issued a new departure card. It did not seem to be anything unusual as the constable dashed it off in seconds without silly questions or raised eyebrows.
