Mechanic!?!

Post by Cing Jai »

Hi, I have an old car, almost 20 years old now so, it needs TLC. I can't for the life of me however find a good honest mechanic in the HH / Cha Am area. I used to work on my cars myself but have no tools here in Thailand. Anyways, because of this I know a good mechanic when I see one and I know when I'm getting ripped off.

I have a rock star mechanic in Bangkok (On Nut area if anyone wants his info) who takes personal pride is his work and in making his customers happy. The first part is nearly unheard of in Thailand! So, I've been making a list of repairs and taking it up to him every couple months to get them done but that's not going to help me if I have a problem where I can't get it to Bangkok and having a car in Bangkok without a place at home to park it is a real pain. Also I might need something small but quick done locally.

I searched this thread for a post with the word mechanic in it but got *zero* results so I started this thread.

Any idea / suggestions fellow drivers? Thanks!

I've skimmed through the Motoring forum, and you're right, there's not much in there regarding repairs. These 2 threads stood out, and give a recommendation:

Yuup - there was a thread on here a long time ago about this

If the guy is still there - there used to be a good mechanic to the North of town almost opposite the palace just before the dual carriageway starts.

He used to have a 1/2 inch layer of oil slick and grease on his forecourt and often a big truck or two.

Used to service my very old hilux when it was roadworthy.

Reliable and not expensive

Depends on what word(s) you use in the seach. Try "garage".

There is a guy called Den who is on the same side as the palace just a little north, look out for old VW beetles and Camper vans, he has done work for us for ages, I think he can turn his hand to anything, if not I reckon he would tell you were to go.
