Will there actually be a monthly income from England if you are working in Thailand? I thought it was calculated on the number of years National Insurance you have paid. Or are you still paying your National Insurance?

I can't really think how you could have worded this post in a way more likely to get an irritated response, but I'll try and live with it.

You fail to take in all the variables on this one which is surprising from yourself. Teaching jobs here are generally looking for guys between 25-40. Like a footballer , you are gonna command as much as you can in your 'prime' years before you have to take a hit as you get older.

Unlike yourself, and many other older teachers I'm sure, I don't and will not have any sort of pension ( or supplement of any sort) too add to my monthly income from England when I hit that magic number. Hence I won't work for less.

For what it's worth, my own variables include living within walking distance of the beach south of HH, teaching 14 hours a week, teaching students who are aged 18-22 as opposed to over-excitable bratlings, not living in Samut Sakhon (?) and working with people who don't bully me. My salary is nobody's business but my own, and I wouldn't dream of advertising it on here, but it's obviously enough or I wouldn't be doing it.

On a more serious note, what kind of school do you work in that pays so well?
I don't research these matters at all, as I've been at my present uni for 6 years and have no intention of moving unless they kick me out (or replace me with a younger and therefore obviously better teacher ), but I've always understood that many regional Thai schools only paid 20-22k per month and that you were doing well at any Thai government school to earn more than about 30-35k. And that was with 24 teaching hours or more.
Proper international schools over 100k.

I'm currently in a Tri-lingual School which, just like my last place of employment, will be making the transition to International in the coming months. Just hope this place doesn't fail like the last one did when they put the prices from 100k+ a year to 250k a year overnight ('current' parents were allowed to stay on the same yearly fee for three years... grandfathered in as such)... We'll see.

No... that was my point. I will not receive anything at all when I'm older hence I (in my youth) command a higher salary than people who are doing it as a 'filler' as such in their elder years.

The School - It's the going rate for private lessons . That is unless you work at a language school where they will give you the princely sum of 400. The parents will still be paying the same amount.

Inlingua for example. A class of 10 kids, each of their parents paying 800 baht for the hour (do the math) and the teacher gets 340 baht.

Teaching a private lesson for an hour... for less than a Thai grand... thank you but not thanks.

That's just me mind! You will notice that I have worked for far less in the past... hence I know about Inlingua. Not anymore though. Not that it's 'beneath me' but I know what the proper ( There's that proper again) going rates are.

The least you can do is make more than a half hearted attempt to belittle me. I didn't dismiss anything you said out of hand. I told a truth that was... not ALL teachers in Thailand are living on less than 50k. I actually don't know anyone within my friends that are earning less than that. Once again you are jumping on some wagon (No idea why to be honest - only thing I could possibly think of is envy ) whilst changing words around.

Please try better in future Dtaii Maii. A good response will lead to a debate. A sarcastic one will lead to name calling.

About a year and a half ago I covered a teacher for Mathiom 4,5 and 6 for three months and received 30 grand a month for my troubles. Happy now Dtaa Maii.
