I will be returning to Thailand shortly,i would like a little advice to put my mind at rest.
In my old passport i have a visa which expired august 2011,BUT as i am married and my husband has a work permit i have an extention to stay dated untill september 2012.
This passport was due to expire so i renewed it via Hongkong,no problem.
Now,i went to immigration prior to return back to the uk to get my re entry permit but they only seemed intrested in my old passport(although really it has been canceled).
When i left Bangkok i only showed my old passport as it had my exit card in it and went home,no problem.
So the questions i have are :do i use the number on my old visa on my landing card,or the hand written number on my extension, and do i just show both passports on my return so as to get the corret date stamps on my return that shows on my re entry permit.
Hope this all makes sense. Thanks.
new passport question
Re: new passport question
Did you get your re-entry permit? I'm assuming you did as without it your extension will have lapsed when you left Thailand. And did Imm transfer the extension into your new passport? I havn't needed to get that done yet but have seen people going through the process. I believe the extension gets transferred, not the visa.
If all's OK with the above, especially the re-entry permit, then you should enter the visa number and bring both passports.

Re: new passport question
I've had to do that recently after getting a new passport. The visa is not transferred but there is a 6 line special 'fill in the blanks' Thai language stamp that goes into your new passport with old passport info, visa info, arrival info, and TM card info. They then also re-stamp the current extension you're on from the info in your old passport. If the visa is still valid in the old passport and your timing is such that you need to apply for a new extension before the visa expires, they then stamp that in as well. Petelomuamart wrote:...... Re: new passport question
However it turns out, you must bring both passports with you. I'm really not sure what you're going to run into at BKK when you return. I'm surprised that HH Imm didn't transfer the extension when you went to see them.
Hopefully, by showing your old passport but with your current extension and re-entry permit, you'll be stamped in until the expiry of your extension - in the new passport.
That being the case, I'd still go to Imm here and ask for the extension to be transferred especially if you intend to exit again before it expires.

Re: new passport question
Does it say cancelled, or stamped through with a punch stamp that reads cancelled? Now,i went to immigration prior to return back to the uk to get my re entry permit but they only seemed interested in my old passport(although really it has been canceled).
Don`t know about UK Passports, but with Aussie ones they put a stamp in it that reads:
"valid visas remain valid". Seems strange that Hua Hin Immigration did not transfer all the visa details into your new passport.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

yes it seemed strange to mebut they just pushed it back to me "no problem".
The old passport has not been stamped canceled. When you apply for a new passport from Thailand you can keep hold of the old one till it returns, though it has been canceled in the system.
I will let you all know how it go,s
Thanks

Lomu........I had a one year Non O visa in my passport and because there were no more available pages, I had to get a new passport. When I went to immigration in Hua-Hin to ask them to transfer the visa to my new passport, I was told on two occasions that it cannot be done, and the they would only be able to give me a 60 extension based on supporting a child. I decided to chance my luck and leave the country via Ranong at the Anderman Club. The officer there was really helpful, and told me the visa can be transferred but not by him because he is not authorized to do it. I have to go the immigration office at the other pier, where a woman officer transferred it to my new passport, although this of course only involved a few rubber stamps, and was done free of charge.
Either they were trying to be difficult in Hua-Hin, or else they may not have the authority. Strangely enough, I've also had a visa transferred once when crossing from Thailand into Malaysia, and again, it was free and was done without any problems.
This year I may just pack up all this coming and going, and show the required 400K instead. The thing is, I quite enjoy my visa related jaunts into Malaysia, Burma, and etc.
In relation to the OP's question, I would imagine she'll be taken to some office at the airport, where they'll do the necessary formalities.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
Re: new passport question
Hua Hin Immigration can, and do, transfer visas to new passports. They transferred mine last year and charged 500 Baht to do so. (with a bogus receipt).

Re: new passport question
Hi all,
Arrived back in Thailand.
On arriving back at the airport i presented both passorts to the lady Immigration officer. She looked at both passport and stamped me in with the date on my re entry permit on my old passport. The only thing i had got wrong was the visa number, which should have been the hand written one on the one year extension to stay.she changed this for me no problem.
Thanks
