30 day visa run/stamp

Post by BingoBango »

Hello all, my nephew is going to Thailand early January from the UK so will get the 30 day stamp on arrival, he will not be going back to the UK until February 25th so will need to make a visa run.

can anyone tell me if there is a regular visa run company from Hua Hin and what is full cost, set off time etc

I have done the Ranong run from Phuket and Hua Hin numerous times but by Car on my own, he will have to rely on a visa bus run.

Thanks in advance

Ranong would only get him 15 days on a VOA - it needs to be a non-bordering country for a new 30 days VOA I'm pretty sure.

Wouldn't it be easier to get a 60 day tourist visa in the UK?

If he goes out and returns by land he gets 15 days. If he flies out and back in he gets 30 days.
Just get a 60-day single or double entry. Cost of the 60-day single entry will be cheaper than a visa run and it gives peace of mind.

It used to get me 30 days, the farce where you jump on and off the boats for a hour and get stamped in Burma has this changed to 15 days and when did it

I'm sure it was a couple of years back they changed it, probably to stop people staying permanently on a VOA if you lived reasonably near the border - still OK for non-O visa runs I think but not for the VOA.

Thanks, just had a look on thai consulate website and its £25 for single entry.

I got the 1 year multiple entry visa for £100 7 years back so prices havnt gone up massively, its only £125 now.

I will take him to Hull in december.

I remember the government making big changes when I was there 7 years ago, they changed to the 3 entries within 90 days for tourist 30 day stamp on arrival visa.

Cheers

As has been said, a border run, arriving here by land or sea, will only give 15 days without a visa. If arriving by air, you get 30. There's no longer any theoretical limit to how many times you can do this (or any limit within a specified time period).
That said, there's another good reason why your nephew should get a Tourist Visa and that's his return date. If arriving without a visa (30 day visa exempt stamp) he should have a return or onward ticket out of Thailand within those 30 days. His itinery dosn't allow for that so he could well not be allowed to board the plane. Airlines now are responsible for ensuring that visas and/or travel arrangements are in order for the country to be visited. If the passenger is refused entry at BKK (unlikely, I know), then the airline has to repatriate and are fined. That's why they can be strict about this. The possibility of not being allowed to board is very real.
Getting the Tourist Visa from Hull is easy and can by done by post. They're very efficient and the passport/visa is normally returned within 3-4 days. The visa will give give 60 days on arrival and can be extended by another 30 days here in Thailand for 1,900 THB.

I think this incurs a hefty surcharge. Post is much easier/cheaper.

I agree. Get the visa before arrival. Hull is an excelent embassy. There postal service is wonderful.
A damn sight better than a trip to Vientiane.
In the last few years I notice the Thai authorities have really got heavy with OVERSTAYERS.
500 baht a day with a maximum of 20000k.
Lots of tea money. :D
Even worser. Upset the lokal MIB and you go to the local lock up.
My buttocks are clenched.
I really believe this is a wonderful country.
It has corruption problems.
But in a strange way, it's honest corruption.
Time for be said zebedee.

Getting a visa before leaving home is easy. It's beyond me why people don't do this when they plan to spend more than 30 days.
The reg was changed 3-4 years ago to cut down on those who basically were living in Thai full-time while pretending to be tourists. Many of them were marginal, dodgy types with insufficient income, criminal records or tendencies, pedos, drunks, druggies and fools. Thailand decided it would prefer not to be the world's trash bin for these types.

This story gets a little convoluted.
I trust that hhad members may have enough brain cells left to understand it.
I DON'T.
Ok. Swedish man marries Thai lady has kids and 10 years later still happy.
she visits LOS on Swedish passport
She used Swedish passport because the Thai one is out of date.
Are you keeping up?
So gets booked in on Swedish passport. Renews passport here.
You are probably ahead of me now.
She goes to leave .
Immigrim isn't taking shit, probably the end of the month.
Booked a Thai for overstaying. In there own fucking country.
That makes me laugh.

Does she have anything to proove her Thai nationality? Thai passport is out of date. How about ID card? Driving licence?

At the end of the day she checked in as a guest to the country, so unless she can prove that she is a Thai national, I don't see what other choice immigration have?

Yes, the Thai passport she renewed while she was here in Thailand.

But why on earth did she show her Swedish passport when she left?

Classic Thai bureaucratic nonsense.

She should have entered Thailand using her expired Thai passport, which is permitted.
