Thai business billing UK company

Post by NotHaveWhat »

Hi there

My girlfriend has been given the opportunity to earn some, fairly decent, cash by doing an out-of-hours call answering service for a company owned by a friend of mine in the UK.

So she'll be self employed. And every month she will bill the UK company and they will send via bank transfer.

My girlfriend also has a regular job in which she earns just about enough to pay tax, so presumably she will also need to pay tax on the money she earns self-employed. How does she go about doing this. Also does she need to register that she's self employed to the government?

The first question has to be - is your girlfriend Thai or farang? Assuming she is Thai, to be honest it is 'up to her' - although she would legally be liable for tax on income from abroad there are probably plenty of ways around that. And she should be able to get advice quite easily herself.
My feeling would be don't get involved, although if she does have to register as self employed that might have implications on your home.
