Funnily enough I went on a jolly to Margate with a crowd from work. Better were the jollies from my local in Putney, usually Brighton, but also Glorious Goodwood, vaguely recall I went to Southend on one trip. One or two used to be nearly wrecked by the time we left the local and its (then) illicit early morning opening. I have no memory of Southend other than we ended up in a nightclub. At least our coach didn't blow-up! :D

Doesn't sound odd at all - I can never understand why people can't go without a beer for a few hours?

It's got nothing to do with not being able to go without beer for a few hours. Just like people eat on the bus and on trains, some like to relax with a cold beer. on an overnight bus ride, what's so evil about sipping on a beer while you watch the countryside slipping by?

What this law does do, is it gives the MIB more tea money opportunities. "No drinking in public" - so essentially, you can only drink in the privacy of your own home. You cannot sit in any areas which is visible to the public. Well, a lot of mom and pop shops are going to lose a lot of business. To be honest, I can't see this law being enforced very often.

This is the point, isn't it?

A lot of people here seem to have let the announcement of this new law get them in a tiz and lost their normal rational of 'its a new law, but probably wont be enforced'.

Let's just wait and see.

I'll fly.
Edit,
Was almost thrown off a bus years ago but not through my own making. Just the idiot I was on a border run with - twat. He was too out of order and the staff gave him one more chance at a petrol stop - through me.
I always enjoy a beer or two on journeys. Maybe the fumes make the driver crash?
These dimwits will be breathalising passengers soon. Idiots.

Laws like this come about from the small minority who spoil it for the vast majority of ordinary people. Somebody getting on a bus and having a couple of beers is unlikely to cause offence to other passengers, whereas somebody who is already or almost drunk and gets on a bus and continues to drink is very likely to cause offence (or worse) to somebody, so the authorities catch everybody with a blanket ban.

Look at the way the UK government has introduced minimum pricing for alcohol, it will probably have little impact on those (relatively few) that cause trouble, but will affect the majority of law abiding people who have to pay a lot more for their favourite tipple.

I have a very high pressure job driving gantry cranes as fast as possible, targets and deadlines always under pressure and rushing, i don't see anything wrong with kicking back cracking an ice cold beer open and enjoying the view and experience as the wife is always asleep in ten minutes.

Hi kendo,
I was once on a visit to a container terminal and was impressed with way the boxes were handled. Do you line up by eye or is it computerised?

No all done by eye this clip is in Rotterdam and the driver is very slow we drive twice as fast as that at the end of a shift on nights i am totally cooked it's like playing computer games for real, and you need to unwind. This is why i am very appreciative of a few wets on the bus when i am on my holidays i never bother driving i let someone else worry about that, kickin it back on a bus with a ice cold beer enjoying the view and watching all the piss poor driving around us, is a bloody good start to the holiday and good entertainment.

Personally i will ignore the ban i will just hide it down and be a little low key with it, when you work your backside off all year for your month holiday in Thailand "nobody, and i mean nobody, is going to keep me away from a cold one" i really do believe one of the best points of Thailand is you can be that little bit more free . :thumb:
