Sneaked away from Hanoi and am off with the family to Ban Krut for a few days.
No work, no fish, just a beach, a bungalow and a knotted handkerchief..................
Bang Krut break
I took the family to Bang Krut for a few days last week, we stayed at the Baanklangaow Beach Resort, having stayed at the Rachavadee Resort last year.
Bang Krut is great if you just want to get away and relax. Life is very slow and the beach is just superb. The locals are out every day keeping the beach clean and tidy which makes a change from some of the rubbish strewn locations elsewhere in L.O.S.
Rachavadee has modern pleasant bungalows in a sandy setting but the one pool (over chlorinated) is a bit shallow and gets rather warm. Food is average but reasonably priced.
Baanklangaow Beach Resort is a very well maintained place with lush vegetation surrounding the clean but a bit dated accommodation. The resort claims to be eco-friendly but I was surprised by the fact that the bungalows only have air con and no fans……………. Apart from that, the rooms are clean and well maintained.
Two swimming pools (again a bit over chlorinated) but nevertheless good for a dip – if you don’t fancy the spotlessly clean beach across the road. Free use of bicycles and internet – the latter being very slow and prone to fading away – but who cares if you are on holiday?
On the last night, the resort was invaded by two ‘VIP’ bus-loads of locals, on a company outing. Needless to say, the usual band of strangled cats were karaokeing for most of the evening. Fortunately our bungalow was located well away from the noise.
The big let-down was the food – not very inspiring, and overpriced.
During our break, we ventured a bit further South to Bang Saphan and met up with a well-known celeb on this forum. We were advised to eat at JJ’s on the beach road at Bang Krut.
Sound advice – superb food and very well priced – everything from Roast Beef & real Mash to burgers and plenty of good Thai dishes – highly recommended.
If I had to choose between the two resorts it would be Rachavadee – just.
you could look at the bus/boat trip to Koh Tao, total distance about 6 hours, but part of that on the boat, loads of hotels when you get there, snorkeling and beaches
Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.......says who?
