Pattaya Prison Shoot Out, Thai Special Forces Mobilised

An elite Thai task force was dispatched to Pattaya Remand Prison in Banglamung on Monday, following an armed attack by an unknown number of gunmen on the Prison
One inmate was injured and over 30 spent rounds were discovered after the early morning shoot out which was from outside the prison and involved heavy firing at the exterior walls causing extensive damage.

Following the attack, two companies of Thailands finest were sent to cover the prison in case there were to be additional attacks, which there were not. However its only a montha ago that a warden from the prison had his home shot at with similar weapons and security services were not prepared to take any chances
At the time, the attack on the warden was blamed on his crackdown on smuggling from outside the prison which included drugs and phones, He has since been moved to another prison for his own safety
The M16 rifle is a high velocity assault weapon capable of either automatic or single shot firing and was introduced to asia by the US troops in Vietnam, since then it has been adopted by many armies around the world.

Comment - Brave hard-ass warden and must be biting into some perp's murky business set-up (although quietly moved by the look of it - by who I wonder - to another post though  ). Does make you wonder about the kind of perps out there here that think nothing of attacking a prison with automatic weapons. :o

I remember a article a while back (Bangkok Post maybe??) It talked of mill ions earned by major crime figures behind bars. Maybe the Warden got in the way
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

Yes Migrant, ironically, when the authorities talk of clamping down on corruption then most that live here (including the Thais) would suggest starting with the institutions of government first.

Online news: Local News

CHON BURI -- Police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old suspected of being the gunman who fired shots into Pattaya Remand Prison, wounding an inmate.

Police said Jirawat Suasing, 21, was apprehended in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district. An SK rifle, 20 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle were seized from his home.

Police believed the seized weapon and motorcycle were used during the incident on Aug 26, when an inmate was shot and wounded.

Police said Mr Jirawat admitted that he was hired by a drug convict, currently serving time in Chon Buri prison, called "Dave" to attack the Pattaya prison.

The suspect was paid 10,000 baht for the job.

He was ordered to attack area 4 of the prison, where drug offenders are locked up.

He said Dave wanted to threaten his drug agents who refused to pay him money they owed him.
