XXL Burger my Review
XXL Burger my Review
Tried the XXL Burger restaurant yesterday and haveto say it was fantastic
I had the standard cheeseburger beef for 199 baht with fries, also had a portion of onion rings which I took away as could not eat them at the time as the burger aand fries were more than enough. Along with the burger you get 6 different dipping sauces for the 199bt.
When I checked the onion rings back at the bar I got 6 dipping sauces with those too and about 20 onion rings for 95bt another bargain.
This is the restaurant that has the XXL burger challenge, you have 2 hours to eat a 2kg burger on a bun, if you finish it in the time you are paid 10,000 baht. Somebody did it last Monday when the bounty was 20,000 so the owner has reduced it to 10,000 now. If you fail you have to pay for your burger, 1300 bt
A fair challenge for those that think they are big eaters, there was actually someone trying the challenge yesterday and they gave up with 10 minutes to go. Could not eat another piece, certainly not something I could manage but maybe someone on here is up for a challenge, god luck if you try.
All in all a greatplace and good food, it is situated on the main road just past the hua hin hospital.

I had a chilli burger there a couple of months back. It was disgusting. The chilli came on the side and it was cold. I believe it was right out of the fridge. My wife ordered the spaghetti and she said it was tasteless. I would have to say this place may be the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at in hua hin. I wouldn't eat there again if the food was free.
Re: XXL Burger my Review
Well there is a difference of opinion, have to say in all mine was great, guess any restaurant is only as good as their last meal
Re: XXL Burger my Review
If you go for the 2kg burger, do you get to choose what toppings you want, or do you have to just eat whatever they give you? A 10,000 baht reward is not nearly enough to get me to eat any cucumber or gherkin.
If on the other hand it's just a tasty beef burger on a bun, I think I may go for this challenge. Who needs to teach? Just go and collect a free burger and 10K once a week - no work permit required.

This reminds me of working away in Portsmouth a few years ago. I was away with a colleague, who was affectionately known to the local Thai community as 'John eat too much'.Takiap wrote:If you go for the 2kg burger, do you get to choose what toppings you want, or do you have to just eat whatever they give you?
We went to one of these places doing a similar challenge. However, the reward at the end of this particular challenge was that you would get the sweet of your choice absolutely free

The plate they brought must have been 1 metre diameter, and about 67% of the plate was filled up with peas. It made me feel quite ill watching him gorge himself with peas. He did it, and ate his free sweet, but he couldn't sleep that night, and was quite ill in the morning. Nobody dared stand behind him for a couple of days either

Its just the burger and bun, you choose pork or beef. If you dont make it you have to pay for it. The rules are on their facebook page, search for xxl kitchen and its all there. A burger and bun is fine, but I hope there's butter on the bun. Why restaurants serve burgers on un-buttered buns is beyond me. Bread, in any form, is not bread unless it has butter on it.

We'll see......

I'll really have to look into this because it sounds like a really good deal. I've had a 1kg steak on a few occasions and finished them without any difficulty at all, and just for the record, I'm not a big person, and neither am I overweight.

Well and truly burgered
Mrs D-M wanted to go to Macro today, so we decided to try the big burger restaurant (XXL next to HH Hospital) on the way.
Getting there from south of town was a nightmare, and if we hadn't cut up soi 102 to the track alongside the railway, we'd probably still be stuck in traffic now!
Anyway, XXL restaurant is amazing. Nicely set up with delightful staff. Be careful what you order. We had a BBQ burger (beef) and an XXL House burger (pork). The BBQ burger was quite spicy, without any indication of this in the menu. Standard big burger size. With some very tasty chips. The XXL was a thing of beauty on a gargantuan scale. The name should have given me a clue, together with the "circa 1 kg" in the menu, but I was honestly expecting something double the size of the usual Burger King special. No way - the diameter must have been around 40 cms. Fortunately we didn't order any chips or onion rings on the side...
We got there at about 12 and were the second or third table filled, but 20 minutes later the place was packed. And to my mild surprise I was the only farang. Lots of Bangkok Mercs and SUVs outside...
Anyway, the food. The burgers and chips were delicious. The spare ribs looked delicious as they were being heaved past our table. A litre of Erdinger Weissbräu helped wash down my feast.
And about 3/4 of our XXL burger went home with us, enough to feed the neighbours (both sides) and provide dinner for me - if I'm capable of eating later. And knowing Mrs DM, probably a treat for the dogs as well.
Not cheap, but fair value for what you get. Highly recommended for a birthday treat, a family with kids or a simple pig-out. We'll go back some time, but next time we'll have back-up!

Thanks for posting DM. A mate of mine went there yesterday as well for the first time, and him and his wife (Thai) also only had good things to say about the food and service. BTW, he had the spare ribs and he said they were really good, and not very expensive either. The owner must be doing something right if he's attracting a lot of Thai customers.
I still haven't got around to going there, but certainly will. Just a pity they close so early, at around 8 I think it is.
