Pattaya - Hua Hin Ferry

As I reported on the other thread, I was told by the Swedish owner last month that the ferry service would not be resumed.

However, I received a phone call and email from them last week asking to use our services again from 9 December to early March.

They intend to run the service on Friday and Monday.
We actually agreed terms with them 2 hours ago to use our marina for the resumed service.

So we will again be the service provider on this side.
You can ask any questions concerning the service here.

Or, if the mods think appropriate, it might be better to transfer this to the original thread and close this one.

Research has been undertaken by the Chulalongkorn University for this public sector project which will be entirely funded by the government and is expected to boost the Pattaya economy by an impressive 2 Trillion Baht, according to the research. By road, the distance between Pattaya and Hua Hin is 370 kms and takes 5.3 hours to complete on average. The new ferry service, if approved, would travel only 113kms at a speed of 30 knots and will take only 3.3 hours.

Well, if what is reputedly the top university in the country can't even get the simple maths right,

113 km = 61 nautical miles @ 30 knots = 2.033 hours

it doesn't particular augur well, does it now .....

In my past partying days I used the very first service several times and it was great for a quick trip across.
 
The fact that it would be a car ferry makes it a whole different ball game.
 
I never considered using the recent failed service, simply because I prefer to use my own transport, so a car ferry would certainly be something I would use.

Isn't 30 knots quite fast for a ship (as an average speed), especially a car ferry?

And 2 trillion baht, is that per year? Even at the short stop end of two trillion (two million million) that 5.5 billion baht per day, ten years is still 500 million per day, even after 100 years you'd need to be getting 50 million per day.
Someone has either bought got a dodgy calculator, or knows more about the ticket prices than they are letting on.

I have traveled on a very large Catamaran Car Ferry that runs from Sweden to the island of Bohrnholm (midway between Sweden and Germany but controlled by Denmark) ending in the city of Rhonne on the island. It runs well over 30 knots. These things are around but do cost some money to construct and run.

Well, unless the operators are willing to spend some money marketing their venture, it will definitely fail again. After all, if it weren't for HHAD, I for one would never even have heard about this ferry service. Unlike some others, I really do believe it could be an extremely successful venture if they promote it enough.

I do however believe most customers would be Farang. The Thais tend to prefer traveling in mobile coffins, often referred to as minivans. I would definitely use the service, even if I only go there and then come straight back on the next boat. Just being out on the ocean is enough for me, and the only the thing I really miss about my last job in the North Sea.

Pattaya doesn't really hold any interest, but I love being on the water, and friends do go to Pattaya, so would make it easier
