G'day! :)

having been pestered by mosquitos since my arrival 4 weeks ago, :cuss:

I have finally taken to wearing long trousers at home.

That way I only have to protect my arms. (and head) :guns:

These Thai mosquitos must have undergone Ninja training in Japan since you

you do not hear them and seldom get to see one.

Also they do not follow the rules and bite in broad daylight. :banghead: :guns:

I hope I shall find this much praised "OFF" at Tesco's!

Yours truly,

Avoid DEET at all cost. One of the worst poisons you could put on/in your body.
I use the natural citronella/eucalyptus oil spray and it works well for a few hours. If I will be out for a long evening I take a small bottle with me and reapply when I feel them biting.

Spray yourself twice or poison yourself, pretty easy choice if you ask me. Also, DEET will destroy plastic such as nylon / GoreTex.

SOI 94 "MOSQUITOS" SPECIAL? :?

The "mosquitos" here round Soi 94, IF they are proper mosquitos (I very much

doubt it), are a special "Ninja" kind:

1. They are tiny, minute and black. :?

2. They are Kamikaze "mosquitos" which means they defy ventilators

to get at their prey. :o :banghead:

3. They do not make the typical noise. So you cannot hear them. :cuss: :banghead:

4. They do not follow the rules, least of all the Geneva Convention:

They attack in broad daylight! :cuss: :guns:

What are they? Some Japanese 5th column left over from the war?

True. Not many mosquitoes bite during the day. Thais assured me that the species that are active during day time are per definition potentially dangerous (dengue, malaria). If my girlfriend spots one during the day she will not rest till she finds and kills it but she couldn't care less in the evenings. Be careful especially outdoors. Indoors it could easily be a harmless regular mosquito that shows activity because you disturbed her sleeping place (inside the air-con, the wardrobe, they also like shoes as a hiding place and helmets even more).
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

The mosquitoes that spread Malaria generally are night-biters while the Dengue carriers are all-day biters.
I get many many emails asking about Malaria and that is understandable but in terms of numbers of visitors who get mosquito vectored diseases Dengue is the more common.
In either case the creams and sprays applied to the skin are the best protection. Consider mosquito netting for small children.
