How do you make a strong sliding tackle without 'showing' your studs

One comment from a TV show was... 'take the studs off' . Defensive coaches of today are at a loss as of how to teach passionate youngsters playing the game how you can tackle nowadays. This is coming from experts of the game so not me....

I don't see why you have to show your studs? Good players wouldn't as they know its only shitehouses that do that. You go in for a tackle with the top part of your foot looking to make contact with the ball, you should never need to show your studs unless your intent is to harm the other player.

Malicious tackles are where you have left the ground and lunge in studs first, as Shelvey did. 90%+ tackles are nothing like that.

I disagree.

In some situations all the little toe poke will achieve is letting the opposition keep possession be it by a different guy. Why bother going for the tackle in the first place? A good strong foot on the ball (notice I said on the ball there) can keep it. A misguided attempt at that sort of challenge... absolutely - off you go!

There was no malice at all in Shelvey's tackle. Clearly got the ball too! (edit: slow mo replays :D )

When I was playing in my teens (13-14 years ago or around) I was always instructed by the manager to go into a 50-50 challenge hard as, if you don't, ya gonna come out the loser.

Would you describe Paul Scholes as a good player?

He's probably one of the best that's played the game. But also one of the snidest shitehouses.

Keane and Viera kept under the radar too.

I like Shelvey, he's got an arrogance a technically better player in Henderson lacks.

I think you misunderstood my post, never talking about toe poking I was talking about tackling. You get in but never need to show your studs. Shelvey had lost control of the ball and dived in with the studs on his front foot showing, he was off the ground. 9 out of 10 are sent off for that under todays rules.

We have one player who due to his inabilities is constantly having to revert to sliding tackles in Hibbert, however he alwys goes in fairly and I have nevr in 10 years seen him show his studs. That is what I call hard but fair, showing studs is the sign of a shitehouse and I would say that of any player that played for Everton too. There is no need for it.

Do fuck off, 1 guy made an Aeroplane gesture, 5000 were singing, 60000 sing every other week.

This has been pre empted on LFC forums.

Nasty Liverpool upset loving United fans.

Their Manager was lying before the match making out the chants were started by the Suarez "incident"

Propaganda? In the week the truth about Hillsborough come out. The irony.

Them twats sing about Liverpool every single week, sign on, build a bonfire, Merseyside slums, always the victim, 96 wasn't enough.

Still obsessed with us even though they've dominated for 20 years.

Don't give me the Telegraph version.
