Yes, but seriously, it's precisely because it's such a very long time since we had a consistently top side that Spurs fans are entitled to take a huge amount of pleasure in seeing our club gradually making its way back up there over the last few years. The job is far from finished, but the days are gone when a season would be considered a success if we beat Arsenal once and finished mid-table. May they never return.

You're right about the arrogance of Man U and Fergie, but it's not exclusive to them. And maybe it's an asset. Wenger has far more than his fair share, and Liverpool and Arsenal are (almost) equally guilty on those occasions when they are reluctant to acknowledge that their standards are falling and feel that past success entitles them to some sort of eternal 'glory'.

The "Big 4" was not a healthy period for English football as a whole.

Totally agree

Past success does not entitle you to eternal glory - so true

United were poor the first half against Spurs.....the same as they were against Liverpool the previous week. You cant give a 2 goal start to a good side then expect to salvage at least a point.
Phelan, nice guy that he is,is never a no.2 for a top Premiership side. He's turned United into a journeyman team, similar to what he was as a player.Unfortunately this is unlikely to be resolved before SAF retires.

But nice to see Liverpool climb out of the bottom 3 at long last.....Baa Baa can now start to relax a bit and enjoy the rest of his holiday in Hua Hin free from worry ! 8)

An interesting one from

http://www.footballtransfertavern.com/2 ... -bad-loser
-----------------------------------------------
The question is whether Sir Alex Ferguson has a genuine point or simply scraping the barrel looking for excuses in relation to this issue.’Fergie Time’ has transcended into the language for a reason. It is difficult to think of a team who are involved in so many games where there have been so many instances of ‘significant’ amounts of added time.

There were 4 minutes of time added to the first half and whilst 4 minutes were indicated the final whistle blew on 90 +5 minutes.

My view on added time is it there to compensate as best as one can for legitimate hold ups in the play. Unless there is a dramatic disparity between the time played and the time ‘scandalously lost’ then it is questionable why a manager would be chuntering over the matter. It smacks of poor grace and a lack of sportsmanship.

“It was disappointing because the record has been fantastic.

“They gave us four minutes [injury time], that’s an insult to the game. It denies you a proper chance to win a football match.”

“There were six substitutions, the trainer came on, so that’s four minutes right away and the goalkeeper must have wasted about two or three minutes and they took their time at every goal kick.

“That’s obvious to everyone today and it’s a flaw in the game that the referee is responsible for time keeping. It’s ridiculous that it’s 2012 and the referee still has control of that.”

In total there were 9 minutes of additional time played yesterday. And Manchester United unquestionably had the lion’s share of possession for the entirety of the second half. So the question must be begged, ‘how much more time did Sir Alex feel he was owed?’
---------------------------------------------------

For the record - just as I believe 'Goal line Technology' is long overdue - so is the fact that the ref should NOT be responsible for keeping the time. Other sports have 'Timekeepers', why not footy?

Now Zidane, this has me confused? Is Phelan now manager? Should he be given credit for Utd's recent successes rather than Sir Alex?

Might be worth trying the rugby system - one of the very effective changes made in the modern game.

If the game stops for injury, a video replay, etc., the ref indicates a "time out" and the clock stops. In football this could easily include substitutions and pauses for the ref to book someone or tell SAF to mind his own bloody business.

The clock is there for all to see and the game ends when it hits 45 mins, so everybody knows where they stand and no more daft arguments about how much time should be added on to time already added on. You could even copy the rule that the game ends when the ball next goes out of play - could be interesting in a ManU-Spurs situation.

Not perfect, but nothing ever will be.

Why not indeed?

But of course that well known twat, Seb Blattermyarse would probably pontificate over the suggestion for another 10 seasons, thus availing more time for SAF to complain :banghead:

No need to be confused, old chap.Phelan is the no.2 but will have a fair bit of input into training and the way the team plays.
When Queiroz was the no.2 United played with a lot of flair and were successful.....same could be said when Kidd and McClaren were assistants to Sir Alex.
Since Phelan became the no.2 United have been relatively successful but the standard of football has been poor compared to what went before.
Not all down to Phelan, sure, but he was a journeyman player and United have been lacking flair for about 3 seasons now.
With players like Valencia,Rooney,Scholes,Young,Van Persie,Kagawa etc.the team should be more entertaining.
Phelan is a nice guy but not really up to it at the highest level......maybe a similar comparison would be Pat Rice at Arsenal.......a lot of United fans feel the same but its unlikely to change before Sir Alex retires.....and dont forget he's nearly 71(SAF) so probably not as "hands on" style and tactics as when he was 55.

"Nani is not the type to dive," said the manager. "He has never been that type of player."

Probably worried that he may not get his 100th cap.
