Over 100 million Chinese expected to be travelling annually by 2020. Prepare your kitchens and lots of activities, say professionals. See full report.

Thailand is fast becoming a hot destination for tourists from China, providing a boost for the country's economy.
15 years ago fewer than 500,000 Chinese people chose a Thai holiday, but soon the country's beaches and historic sites will be seen by more tourists from China than any other nation.

I am not sure if the BBC link will work in Thailand.

I think Thailand has always been a hot destination for the Chinese.

As the provinces open up and allow travel from China, then Thailand is going to be like their Benidorm, there will be millions here in the next few years
Re: Thailand is set for a boom in tourists from China
The future of Thai tourism is Asia and they know it.
Go to Pattaya and you will see the nightlife migrating away from the Beach Road area. Once upon a time Beach Road was lined with tin-roof beer bars. No longer, its condos and malls and hotels going up now or already operating.
Nightlife has moved up to soi Buakhao which is unknown to family/package tourists and nicely out of sight to wives and kids. The nightlife remains an attraction and will not go away any time soon. Too many pooyai are making too much money off it so in the best Thai fashion they will have their cake and eat it too.

Fifteen years ago China was poorer, many fewer members of the middle class. More to the point, it was difficult to get a passport 15 years ago.Siani wrote:The battle for Chinese tourists
