Air Conditioning Units not cold
Air Conditioning Units not cold
My Daikin air con units are not blowing as cold as I think they should even though I have cleaned all the filters on the "inside Units":
Question: Do the outside compressors need "re-gassing" the same as you would do with a car?
All help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
Yes...You should have the units serviced every 6 months.....and topped up with freon gas

Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
Probably just need to have it serviced. We have ours scheduled to be serviced every 6 months (no idea if this is right or over/under kill. Whatever, if there's anything wrong, it should be identified during the service.

Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
Service usually consists of cleaning the filters, and topping up the gas, but also flushing out the discharge pipe.
Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
Just be careful who you let loose on your air cons, there are many "cowboys" about!
Properly installed, a "split" type air con as used in most houses, should not lose any gas. The compressor is hermetically sealed, as opposed to a car type with a mechanical shaft seal, and the only places it will leak is where connections have been made in the piping.
Cleaning depends on a couple of things. Firstly, how often is it run? Setting a fixed time, such as 6 months, does not really help. How dirty / dusty is the environment? Most of them have filters that are easy to clean on the indoor unit, so you should base the complete "service" clean on how often, or how dirty, the filters get. With the outdoor unit it is easy to see when they are starting to get dirty, and they are also not difficult to clean, but DO NOT just stick a hose pipe into them!

Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
If they were blowing colder than they are now, then obviously something is wrong with them. Some models simply don't cool the air as much as one would expect, or at least that's what I assume because the aircon unit in our condo in Bangkok is damn useless, and the unit is brand new, came with the condo. Fortunately the place is rented out to a Thai woman who doesn't really care much for freezing.

Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
When we bought the house, we had an extra A/C unit installed. The installer told us that we should have our units serviced 3 monthly if we use talcum powder in the room, or 6 monthly if we don't. We had a slight problem with the older unit, so called the guy in to do the service 6 weeks early. Because it was early, he would only charge 100 Baht for the new unit. The faulty unit cost us 250 Baht.
At those kind of prices, just do it, and enjoy the cool air again

Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
Thank you all for your replies. The answer for me is to get the units serviced as I've lived here for 6 months already and I doubt that the previous owner did too much servicing.
Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
Anyone recommend a reputable Air Con service tech?
Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
When we used to get the AC serviced at the rental property, they always cleaned out the discharge, otherwise it clogged with what I presumed was mold. I could give details of the guys who installed/serviced ours, but they only speak Thai. We had no problems whatsoever with them.Mrock wrote:Anyone recommend a reputable Air Con service tech?

Re: Air Conditioning Units not cold
What you are calling the "discharge" is the condensation water drain, and yes, they do get blocked up.advocate wrote:When we used to get the AC serviced at the rental property, they always cleaned out the discharge, otherwise it clogged with what I presumed was mold. The "discharge" is the high pressure piping connected to the load side of the compressor.
