LAWN BOWLING CLUB COMING SOON TO HUA HIN
Re: LAWN BOWLING CLUB COMING SOON TO HUA HIN
My father is quite involved with lawn bowls in NZ. I asked him for his thoughts.
He told me his bowling club are currently in the process of changing from having a real grass green which they've had for decades, to the latest artificial material which he thinks originated in Scotland, and now also made in NZ. It's called Tiger Turf, http://www.tigerturfworld.com
The reason they are moving away from real grass is the high maintenance costs, this included paying a specialised greenkeeper. He said the Tiger Turf would need to be laid by an experienced person and it sounds like it could cost at least 3-4 million baht, including getting the foundation right. He said there shouldn't be a concrete foundation, but several layers of different grades of gravel.
Hope this helps.

If you were to try and use natural growing grass, the first thing you would need would be a deep reliable water well / bore. By the time you get this installed and oil the right palms to make it legal, you may not not have any funds left for the rest of it!

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

I have ordered the artificial turf .
Hoping to be open 1st November. I must stress the word hope as I am waiting for an international freight with all the equipment etc.
Bowling green equipment is rare here so I am having to source all equipment from overseas.
Thanks for your interest

Good luck with the venture...
If I have any time in Hua Hin (and any friends to play with....
) I'll certainly give it a shot. Cold beer is a must though.

Of course cold beer is available, if you struggle to find a playing partner there will be no shortage of willing competitors to give you a game

A little like turning up in a bar alone and playing pool with a beautiful young lady...Lee Anthony wrote:Of course cold beer is available, if you struggle to find a playing partner there will be no shortage of willing competitors to give you a game
Can't see you having any problems with your business there if that's the case!

All the best nevertheless...

I wish you every success with your business venture.
Having a some what misplaced youth/late teens period we were always active participants in our local pub league crown bowls league and respected by our elders likewise which now I appreciate more than ever. This sport should not have any sexism/ageism stigma whatsoever.
Once you find your feet in running the business may I suggest a monthly sponsored knockout competition with ? thousands of baht prize money and you will be amazed who/what appears from the woodwork to participate.
Food for thought eh.

Forgotten which thread I was on after the above but I'm in either way...thousands of baht prize money

Gonna have to steer clear of the gambling side of things in this country though so 'Prize Money' sounds good to me.
