Can any one tell me if that very nasty little Thai man is still in charge of the parking area at the main temple in town.
Every time I parked there was a problem. Then one day he tried to charge me double as it was a holiday he said. The Thai couple next to me got stuck in to him as he was lying, next time I went back he told me I could not park, as there was a chance he would have damaged my car, I no longer park there.
Many people tell me they have problems as well. It is annoying as it is very handy to park there

Suggest you go talk to the tourist police about this. The question is whether he has the right to collect parking fees or whether he is a self-established private entrepreneur - or who hired him?ian lawrie wrote:Can any one tell me if that very nasty little Thai man is still in charge of the parking area at the main temple in town.

However, knowing Thai logic, chances are that this may backfire and you will never be able to park there again. But since this is the situation already now, why not get even?

I could have written that blog myself - he is indeed a nasty little bastard. On a number of occassions he has told me to leave the premises for no good reason. On one occassion I had just parked in an empty slot when the bastard started to make a fuss and told me I couldn't part in that slot. I reversed out only to see another car take the slot, the Thai owner get out and grease the hand of the bastard.
I have never questioned this authority to collect the 20 baht, I believe he works for the temple, but he has obviously over time set up his own rules for who can park. I have now started to ignore him, place 20 baht on the car and walk away.

Perhaps a light at the end of the tunnel, I was at a party in one of the bars in town, big party with many people with influence there. I met a good police man friend of mine ( PRETTY HIGH UP THE LADDER ) I told him my and other frarangs problems parking there. He said I know him well don't worry I will sort him out. told him I was worried he would damage my car. Trust me he will be told. So fingers crossed I will keep you all posted.
Re: parking at temple
We've parked there since 2006 and never had any kind of problem. ?? ......
Re: parking at temple
Only problem I have had parking there is forgetting that they close at 9 or 10 and finding the gates locked when returning to collect the car. Taxi home and back to collect car the next day.
On second thoughts not a bad idea to prevent driving home drunk!!!

You could always pay to park at the Hilton under ground car park, just another option.

Surprised you had any problem in the first place, what with you knowing people in such high places.... *snigger*.ian lawrie wrote:Perhaps a light at the end of the tunnel, I was at a party in one of the bars in town, big party with many people with influence there. So after a pissed up chat down one of the bars with a policeman that you, may or may not play pool with, he's assured you things will be done.I told him my and other frarangs problems parking there. Problem solved then.... good work.

On a more serious note if this guy's a real problem and there is a real issue that cars may be damaged then I hope it gets sorted.

ian lawrie...
Sorry about the above post. Was in one of my more sarcastic moods that day. Just bumped into the post again and thought I'd apologise. No harm meant.

That guy has been there for years and basically he takes his job a bit too seriously in that he insists on showing people where to park. If you wait for him to show you a place he is fine but for some reason if you just drive in and park anywhere he gets upset. He has some kind of a problem but if you humour him it's cheap and handy parking and that thing about closing the gates at 22.30 stops you driving home when you shouldn't!
