How To: Deportation

Post by ziyonex »

Just a simple question: What is the easiest way to be deported?

I've got myself in a financial pickle, and I am unable to pay the fine of my overstay. I realize deportation is a very serious case and would like to know more about it. I would like to go back to my home-country, America, anyway but I'm not sure I would like to mess with the deportation method.

If I get deported from Thailand would I pay for the plane tickets or would the Police, American Embassy, etc.?

If I get deported would I be able to come back?

If I wanted to get deported who should I go to? The HH Imigration Office?

How serious in general is deportation?

Thanks

I would seriously ask your embassy about this.

I wouldn't rely on the good nature of the Thai authorities. They'll bang you up, transfer you to IDC in BKK and wait until you get the money to repatriate yourself. And, BTW, you're incurring another 500 Baht a day fine whilst in detention. Re-entry after deportation is always at the discretion of the Immigration Officer. But I would reckon on 5-6 years. Persona non grata is a whole different ball game and I would suggest you never tried to come back, if that's the case.
Your Embassy, I've got no idea about, but certainly The British Embassy stopped hand-outs all over the world, years ago.
As above, get in touch with your Embassy asap.
Sorry to be hard, but that's my understanding of the reality.

The maximun for overstay is 20,000baht (as far as I know) and I'm not saying it's as straight foreward as just paying the fine.
Nothing to sell, no family or friends that could help you out?
There but for the grace of God........................

Is it 500 per day now Lomu, up from 200?

Yes, go to the American Embassy in BKK ASAP. The staff that help those in trouble are not as hard ass as the consular section seems to be at times when dealing with visas for Thai's etc. Just lay all the cards on the table and hide nothing. As Lomu says, if you've let your passport expire things are much worse. If you've perhaps lost it or it's been stolen, get a police report before you go to the Embassy.

I don't know and can't say if the Embassy will give you emergeny funds or a plane ticket, to be repaid by contract. If not, they may be able to recommend organizations who help people with problems like this.

I would hope you would have at least someone in the States who could wire you the funds or, Fedex you a credit card in your name with some value on it. I think you could probably pay your overstay fine with a credit card. Maybe consider selling what you have, watch, computer, cell phone etc. At least you'll have some cash. Good luck. Pete

I left something out. When you get to the Embassy, you'll be directed into the consular section which more or less consists of a waiting room and a window, behind which is a clerk who will ask you what you want. Don't spill your whole story to him or her in earshot of everyone else in the waiting room. Just tell them you have a serious problem and need to talk to someone in authority, privately. To repeat, the guards will not let you onto the Embassy grounds unless you have your American passport, or a police report saying it is lost or stolen. Pete

Pete,
Went up from 200 to 500 a day effective from 15th March this year. The max is still 20,000 as another poster pointed out.
Again, the OP should get this sorted out asap.
A horrible situation to be in, but one that needs addressing very quickly.

Just walk into the embassy go o the end by the post office go up the small steps and through the double doors, don't worry about going to a window as they are for foreign nationals, inside the door make a right and down by the seating areas is the American Citizen services center, alternatively call the embassy and ask to speak to Tedd Cooley in the American citizen services, they will advise you of the best way to proceed.
They will not need your passport before they let you in but they will need it to help you
Deportation is a serous thing, I would see if you can get a flight as a courier, they do still do this but not as often.

IF you get caught overstaying by police or immigration you are in deep shit. You will have to wait in the detention center in Bangkok for, who knows how long! It is not the place you would like to stay in.

Then you would probly get blacklisted, so stay quiet and contact your embassy asap and try to get the money from somewhere, loaned or whatever.
