One goes to Sukhumvit Pete
And Sukhumvit goes all the way to Cambodia!
It has very little to do with road distance, all to do with traffic and expressways--time not distance.

I just used DM for the first time for a domestic flight. I had never been there before as The Swamp was the only option. I did not find it to be too bad. Certainly much more calm as had all ready been mentioned. I care nothing about any "shops". I got a bite to eat and it wasn't much good but that was OK at the time.
I also did not care much for the taxi surcharge but so be it I guess. There is probably a work around but you gotta wanna work harder for that 50 Bt that I do.
Send the DM planners to HK where you step right from the bagage hall onto the platform of the Train into Kowloon and Central. Send the planners to Shanghai where the 'small'; terminal in Hongqiao is the terminal for both air and hi-speed train travel ad has TWO subway lines going into the terminal
Dr. Mike, what are you suggesting? That kind of thinking can get you into trouble here. Just not possible for Thai's to plan that far ahead!
Side note; It is possible to cut the cost of the Taxi ride by taking Mini Bus from Victory to Mung Tong Thani and then again a much shorter taxi ride to Don Mung. Not very practical (as you have to walk half way around Victory to get the Mung Tong #3 Mini Bus) but since we have a condo in Mung Tong Thani it works for us.
My son has just done it yesterday , he got the train to Bangkok then a local train to DM. He did the reverse on the way in. was not quick but he was in no rush.
I will ask him how it went when I get to talk to him.

does anybody know the best way to get to don muang airport
is there a bus or minivan at all ?
Been looking at this too. Apparently if you hold an Air Asia ticket (current or previous day) you can use their free shuttle between Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi (in either/both directions). This would mean you could use the new airport bus to and from Hua Hin. Failing the free shuttle there is a regular bus too for peanuts. Takes about an hour. Details on the other website that need not be named.
Air Asia moving all operations to DMK has complicated thinks quite a bit - but it is certainly better than the alternative which would be international out of BKK then domestic out of DMK.
So far I have only taken taxis when en-route to the airport - largely for luggage management reasons - but on arriving at DMK, the bus service to Mo Chit, BTS to Victory and then van service worked pretty well.
What *didn't* work well, was the bus to the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai-dtai) and then Taxi - the taxi fare alone was 400, which takes some doing, metered, in the Big Mango! I also can't see a lot of reason to go to Swampy just to get a free shuttle from AirAsia.
However, speaking to the van service people in Sra Song Road (across from the govt bus station), they said they were running to Don Muang, calling the service "Rangsit". Can anyone vouch for this? Does the Rangsit service go to DMK - or 'someplace real close...'
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

ALL public bus`s, mini or otherwise, stop on Vivaldi Hwy opposite terminal 1 at Don Muang. There is an overhead walkway that crosses the highway into terminal 1, so not only a drag up the stairs, but if your flight is from treminal 2, then a long walk as well.

I was in Chiang Mai last month and found it quite handy flying AirAsia out of DMK. I took the overnight sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, and it stops right at the airport.
