Re: McDonalds now in Market Village...
Wish one would open in Cha-Am no fast food here

Re: McDonalds now in Market Village...
I love a good burger, so for that reason, I never eat one at McD or BK. In my opinion, their burgers are a million miles away from what I term a burger, and to add insult to injury, they expect you to pay through the roof prices. I would sooner pay 300 baht for a Bintaburger than I would for a McD or BK burger.
Maybe I still have too much SA blood running through my veins, because I don't think I've ever personally me any SA person that like McD and/or BK burgers, which no doubt also explains why McD's failed miserably in SA.
Also, contrary to what some others have posted, I'm not too sure McD and BK would survive in Thailand if there were no westerners/tourists here. If they did, I think we'd see many of their branches closing down because let's face it, you don't often see the locals eating burgers. KFC is different of course, and is hugely popular with the Thais.
As much as I dislike the food at McD and BK, I'm glad to see them here because as they say, variety is the spice of life. For the best part of ten years, Thai food accounted for about 99% of my diet, but lately I've started to get a bit bored with it. I still eat a lot of it, but just not every day. I've also become somewhat wary of a lot of Thai dishes, not because of hygiene concerns, but because of the heavy use of so many different sauces/additives. They taste great, but.....?
Anyway, we'll be having some cottage pie for dinner today.

Burgerking make brilliant burgers, don't be lumping them in as generic "fast food".
It amazes me that people are disgusted with you for having the audacity to have a slice of Pizza in Asia then start banging on about how some palm oil fried, msg laden pork is so much better.

Each to his own. Personally I like all food and occasionally a BG burger. Hey 'one's mans meat is another mans poison'
I don't think the majority of fast food joints give a sh1t about farang residents or visitors. Thais make up the majority of customers from my observations. I was in a KFC on the way down from BK and Thais were buying by the bucket load. Was in Burger K at 2am the other week and it was packed out with Thais

It will be there because people will frequent it, allot of people, and it will make allot of money. There will be many many Thai's there, that's just how it is. Check out the one by the Post Office. Have you ever seen a time where its empty ? No...

One good thing they do make well are thick shakes...very very good.
To clarify my last post, I do think it a shame they have to have it right in the front of MV...it would have been good to have something Thai looking...or east meets west sort of thing.
When I was in Phuket earlier this year, I noticed a lot of Thai children in McD's when I passed, some were quite on the "Tubby" side. Maybe rich Thai parents think it is a status symbol to eat out with the kids in McD's

Re: McDonalds now in Market Village...
We have never eaten in Mc D but when the wife is drunk she sometimes craves a BK, but the point is I will miss Mix and Match and the people watching while the wife is shopping and the little decorations in caramel on my coffee.
Re: McDonalds now in Market Village...
The F/F restaurant that I enjoy in BKK is Au Bon Pain--great coffee, sandwiches and pastries--there must be a dozen in BKK and at least 2 in Pataya.

...don't worry you won't miss them... you can't help tripping over them nowB6PTW wrote:but the point is I will miss Mix and Match and the people watching while the wife is shopping and the little decorations in caramel on my coffee.

Only downside may be that they can't do all the same food as they can't have much of a kitchen left!? If it suits them they'll probably get a fair amount of people from McD's who want to eat their whatever's in the posh seats while having their coffee, beer and whathaveya.

Re: McDonalds now in Market Village...
Thanks for the update, nice to know they are still there as we are back in 10 days.
Re: McDonalds now in Market Village...
What is it with this weird obsession of slagging McDonald's off because they don't like it, while leaving every other food joint they don't like alone!? I can understand people thinking it's rubbish but why the need to mention it. I've never particularly been a fan of dogshit but I don't go round dissing dogs do I... what exactly is wrong with some people?? McDonald's is the most popular restaurant in the world, it's nothing short of a miracle how they can continually serve up mel after meal all to the same high standards and quality. McDonalds, and their diligent, conscientous staff for that matter, derserve our utmost respek, whether you like burgers or not, they deserve... no, they've actually earnt your respect.
Any town in any city in the world would be left completely soulless if McDonald's withdrew their culinarylingus services. And what on earth would I kids eat then? where would they get their daily sesame seed intake from? or their two all-beef patty, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickled onions all wrapped up in a sesame seed bun intake from??
Answer me that all you people who seem to have this twisted hatred of cows. If we weren't supposed to eat them then God would never had made them out of meat would he. Derrr. I'm going for a drink but first I will pop in to MV to see the night crew and just let them know that people are behind them and how proud we are of the tireless work they do in brining our favourite food to our towns and cities.

Re: McDonalds now in Market Village...
'Mc D does not claim more than it delivers.
It is reliable, clean and hygienic.
When you are traveling it is a godsend, easy to find, fast and cheap.
Its b'fast menu is good and its chicken products are also tasty.
I was out with my grandchildren recently--they got hungry at an inconvenient time.
Luckily there was a McD close by and tears were avoided.
It is NOT great dining, it does not claim to be.
