I've read many times that Carroll Shelby sometimes wore bib overalls while racing. But the only photos I ever saw were him out of the car, like this one:

Last week http://thechicaneblog.com/ had a great shot of him in a Ferrari. Yep, overalls while racing for Team Ferrari:

Not to be outdone in the Texas Style department, sometimes the Chaparral cars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaparral_Cars built by a couple of good 'ol Texas boys, Hap Sharp and Jim Hall, raced with unnecessary weight:

Yes, they didn't have any Nomex in motor racing in those days, here's the great Argentine driver Juan Manuel Fangio racing in a tee shirt:
