Well it's good to see the military/MIB having a nice rest to prepare themselves for Saturday!
But when was the ISA last invoked? I would guess during the Red shirt protests, although there could well be other times when it isn't made public - if indeed that is possible in the LOS, where they seem to find it necessary to publicise every single aspect of security preparation in detail.

Perhaps the theory is that there will be less chance of serious trouble if people know the Government is prepared. In fact that could have quite the opposite effect, so I wouldn't really want to be trying to get a seat on a bus or train to Bangkok tomorrow! Sounds as if it could be pretty busy.

The Police are reportedly screening traffic on some highways into Bangkok, but only traffic that appears to be "caravans" as they refer to it.
There is a big storm presently in my area (eastern) part of Bangkok and some heavy rain earlier. Maybe their parade is getting pissed on.

I came up to BKK by minibus left HH at 10--stopped 3 times by police--released immediately.
Traffic in BKK unbearable-- over 45 mins from river crosing to Vic Mom.
Police tear gassing the crowd we heard--then heavy rain--we've not heard the last of them.

On te other hand, bara and restaurants on Sukhumvit all doing good business

The morning after reveals that there isn't any viable resistance to the current government any longer. The ex-General running yesterdays event obviously doesn't have the qualifications in administration and organization we're used to seeing in Generals from many other countries. He's finished, given up in his own words, and subsequently so is his group. He reportedly phoned his active duty General friends yesterday to bring troops and help fight the police....no one came.

PAD is finished also with Sondhi facing an avalanche of charges, along with his partner Chamlong Srimuang, another ex-General. Another firebrand is still sitting in a Cambodian jail for illegal entry during the Preah Vihear (sp) temple episode. He may serve his full sentence which I think is 8 years?

Nothing left but the ballot box to institute change, and/or the current Phua Thai/Red Shirts will self destruct with their sympathetic electorate due to some of the questionable programs they're starting. I don't think we're going to see the Democrats back in power here for a long, long time, and we're not going to see anymore coups IMO unless Thaksin does something very foolish. Pete

If I read today's news in the Post correctly, the police set up the problems they had by first trying to stop people in caravans heading to the rally then allowing ONLY one entrance to the rally and blocking off all other possible ways of attending. What are they afraid of? It was only to be a rally but escalated because of people being blocked out. Gosh, when police outnumber the demonstrators 3-1 how could they be worried about anything getting out of control IF they did their job correctly.

Yes, the Democrats have never actually won an election outright so without a coup they aren't going anywhere.
