StevePIraq: If your wife has recurrences that resist simple treatments, I can't speak highly enough about the Spine Clinic at BNH Hospital in Bangkok. They are not there to drain money by unnecessary tests, like the knee-jerk "needs an MRI" at Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin.
They had prescribed physical therapy that I wanted to do closer to home (I lived in Pattaya at the time, and wanted to go to Bangkok Hospital-Pattaya). When I returned to BNH for my next appointment and they learned that the PT at BP-H was adding services to what they had "prescribed", they were visibly displeased. They thoroughly explain options (in fluent English) and why they recommend which, but leave it up to you to choose.

@Wpceo,
Luckily all of her issues are now cleared up so I have no worries at this time, however it is good to get a recommendation of another hospital that provides good service.
I think the biggest issue for most Farangs is that there is not the true family doctor here as we had in the UK etc where the doc would treat you for most of your life and built up a good history on you. My mother had the same local GP for 40 something years until he retired and he always took great care of her. This does not seem to be the case here.

Re: Best Hospital in HH?
I have "quasi GP/Primary Care" doctors here in Thailand. In Bangkok, at BNH I used Doctor Irene as a first point of contact for any/all health issues. She would then farm me out to specialists when necessary, though she herself was a huge font of information, advice and experience.
Here in Hua Hin, I have a similar arrangement with Dr. Naravadee at Bangkok Hospital-Hua Hin. Even though she's not Dr.Irene (probably half her age, with much less experience) I've had a good rapport with her and she's now my first point of contact for any medical issues.
I should add that Dr.Mike was instrumental in introducing me to Dr. Naravadee. I told him what type of relationship I wanted with a doctor, and he recommended her.

Re: Best Hospital in HH?
Until recently, I had been satisfied with treatment given at Bangkok Hospital. However, 3 recent visits have made me think differently.
Visit 1 - Went on a follow-up visit for a toe problem. After being kept waiting for 2 hours, when I eventually got to see a doctor, the doctor didn't have a clue what I was there for. I got absolutely nothing from the appointment, but the hospital releived me of over 1000 Baht. They made another follow-up appointment, which I did not attend.
Visit 2 - I've had a skin problem for a while since moving to Thailand. Doctor looked at it, decided it was a fungal problem and prescribed some very expensive creams - the problems remained.
During a subsequent visit to Petcharat Hospital for a post (UK) operation check-up (arranged by my GP in Hua Hin), I mentioned my toe and skin problems. They took several lumps of skin off me immediately, and sent them to the lab for analysis. Problem was accurately diagnosed within 30 minutes, and problems have been treated and no longer exist. They confirmed the creams provided by Bangkok Hospital would never have resolved the problems.
Visit 3 - My wife has an ongoing long term problem, which was being effectively treated in the UK. When we got to Hua Hin, we were horrified when we found one of her tablets was not registered for use in Thailand. We went to Bangkok Hospital, who duly prescribed an alternative 'expensive' medication. Since Christmas, my wife's symptoms have recurred. Rather than put more good money in to Bangkok Hospital, I drove her up to Petcharat Hospital this morning. They confirmed that the medication prescribed was not for my wife's condition. We now have the correct 'alternative' medication, which she will commence tonight - fingers crossed.
I must say that I'm really impressed with Petcharat Hospital, and they don't seem set on relieving your wallet of as much cash as they can - they seem very fair. An example of their pricing is that they are currently offering a full MOT for over 35s for just 1700 Baht (only 1300 Baht for under 35s). These prices will be in force until the end of this month.

BB
BKH is a place to go if you want mis-diagnosis and a wallet depletion for wrong or unnecessary medication
SP as above
HHH as above
RIP (rip as opposed to rest in peace) joints and as BB stated, PETCHARAT puts them to shame
I've used all. Been mis-diagnosed twice in BKH, once in SP. HHH is ok for cuts, bruises and having babies
I will use BKH and SP in cases of emergencies where travelling to Petchaburi is not on
All that BKH bullshit about a helipad is crap. A copter has arrived ONCE since it was built and that was to bring all the dignotories from BK down for it's opening
I think the learned Doctor Mike will confirm if he is honest as he was the PR/marketing man in the installation of BKH in Hue Hin.

Re: Best Hospital in HH?
Rather than bother you BB with "where is the hospital located" I googled it and not unsurprisingly by the name, it's in Phetchaburi. So I looked at their website and the health check up programme is a lot more expensive than the MOT that you have quoted. Having said that, the level of tests they carry out is extremely extensive and for me the cost would be 7450 baht but well worth it in my opinion. What I found for 7,450 baht was quite a bit more extensive, but either way, they both offer peace of mind for not that much money. I am going to give one of them a try.

Re: Best Hospital in HH?
My recent experiences at Bangkok Hospital were in keeping with several of these posts. I went 3 times, average wait time over one hour - even though I had appointments. The doctor who saw me removed a wart from my back and put in stitches. When he removed the stitches the wound opened up within a day. Furthermore, he had left one stitch in. When I returned to have him fix it, he said he left it in on purpose. A clear lie, since he had not made another appointment to have it removed and never told me it was there. Instead, he said the bandage would come off in about a week and all would be well. To add insult to injury (literally) he charged me for removing the stitch and re-bandaging the wound. I will not return to this hospital.

Never received a written reply of any nature.
I phoned the Director's office after several weeks... Yes.. letter had been received. Yes, the doctor had made an error.. No, I would not get a written response... not even an offer to refund the incorrect medication.
Will I return to Out Patients Department. NO.
Perhaps would go to Emergency if necessary.

If you ask any Thai's where is the best hospital, they will all say Petcharat. Sounds like they are right!
