Agreed, last night/today was bad, and there was one other day in the last week, but we've not had what you've had.

I'm close to Khao Takieb. I can recall at least 3 days in the past week that have featured *heavy* rain. Today and Monday for sure. Don't know about yesterday because I wasn't here, but it was raining on the way to and back from Bangkok. I also remember one night it was raining and thundering as I woke up several times through out.

Yes, a few minor problems, but nothing I didn't really anticipate. I honestly wish I'd been able to do it 10 years earlier. I now consider myself a lucky man to be living this life.

Unusually heavy rain 'to persist into winter'

Published: 29/11/2012 at 12:00 AM
Newspaper section: News

Unusually heavy rainfall will continue across the country well into this winter, the Thai Meteorological Department says.

Unlike typical weather patterns in the past, high pressure fronts from China have not been moving into Thailand, said a senior official at the department.

Weather this winter looks like it will be more affected by low pressure fronts from the southern part of the country, resulting in severe rainfall, she said.

Bangkok on Wednesday suffered heavy downpours in many areas.

Several provinces in the South and Central Plains have also experienced heavy rains recently.

The unusually heavy rain "is not a result of El Nino or La Nina", the official said, adding that it will probably continue well into the winter, with especially strong downpours in December.

"The [rain] levels will gradually reduce but will still remain above the seasonal average ... over the past 30 years," she added.

However, the department said on its website that El Nino may develop over the next one or two months, resulting in warmer temperatures.

Meanwhile, low pressure systems have been dominating in the Central, South and Gulf of Thailand regions, causing rainstorms.

Heavy rainfall yesterday caused a flash flood in Chumphon's Pathiu district, affecting 49 villages. No injuries were reported.

The governor of Chumphon, Pirasak Hinmuangkao, has ordered a 24-hour alert and called for careful monitoring of the situation.

It has been raining along the southeastern coast since Monday and fishing boats have remained near the shore.

The area from Prachuap Khiri Khan to Nakhon Si Thammarat has also been warned of heavy rainfall and possible flash floods.

Wanchai Udomchai, director of the Southeastern Meteorological Centre, advised fishermen to keep their fishing boats ashore as waves in the Gulf of Thailand could be as high as two metres.

I don't think I'll forget this morning's rain for a while. I was called upon to drive my son to work and grand daughters to school. I've never known driving conditions like it - it was brilliant, with my car making quite a bow wave as I progressed along Lake Petchkasem. I now know why I bought a truck as opposed to a normal car  Apologies to those caught in my wake.

Full marks to the teachers at my youngest grand daughter's school. The water there was so deep, that they waded out to the car and carried her in to the school.

Probably the most memorable bit was driving down my road a couple of hours ago, I could see something moving strangely in front of me. I slowed down, and low and behold, there was actually a fish swimming along the road - there are no ponds or streams anywhere near my house. Wife and daughter wanted to grab the fish for the pot, but I didn't stop.

I thought somebody said on this thread a couple of weeks ago that the rains had basically stopped until April :?

I think those land walking fish that relocate during rainstorms are snakeheads. Cook up as many as you can as they decimate other fish species once they get established in new areas. Pete

Does anybody know what is due to hit us on Sunday? In the 8 months I've lived here now, my phone has never given me a weather warning. For a few days now it's been warning about bad weather in the Hua Hin area for Sunday. The message reads:
Thunderstorms in the area Sunday
morning until Sunday evening
Are we in for some almighty deluge, or has the weather site had a software update? :?

If you look at the Forum weather site it too shows thunderstorms for Sunday and Monday - of course they don't always get it right but as long as its only isolated for 2 days, it will help green up the garden!!

Did the big chill hit Hua Hin this morning? I was doing my morning wee hour routine, sitting outside drinking tea at about 0300 and you could actually feel it arrive. It went from about 23c to 18c in 30 minutes on the back of a strong north wind. It now sits at 19c at 0700. Just in time for Christmas! :D Pete
