water meters

Post by lizzy »

The Juristic Person for the Estate I have a house on sent a email last Saturday to inform everyone that the Water Aurthority was finally installing their meters and the ones installed by the developer were being removed. Unfortunately the time frame for this to happen is,"in the next two weeks."

As I arrive in Thailand in 18 days, I am not here to hand over the money and the required documents. I am told this means the house will not have a meter (therefore no water other than what is in the tank ) when I arrive.
How easy is this to arrange myself?

We have also been told that the water authority will not accept scanned and emailed copies of Power of Attorney forms, is this true?

What documents are really needed and what are the costs? We are quoted 2,971 Baht which includes an Inspection fee? and other costs.
Thanks :D

lizzy,

We had to do this recently. I must admit, my wife did the paperwork, so I don't what was involved, but I don't think it was too hard. However the key thing is that there was a 4 week waiting list, and despite offers of tea money, there didn't seem to be any way of circumventing that process.

We were OK with this as our water had already been supplied by a neighbour for several months, so it just continued for an extra 4 weeks.

The cost you're stating looks about right.

Thanks for the reply. Cost really is not an issue but the fact we have been given a window of two weeks to get the payment and paperwork in. not being in the country makes things very difficult and the rules such as any proxy forms being only the originals is an impossible request as the mail from here in Europe will take longer than the given time. I will also only be in Hua Hin for 6 days this visit so that also limits what I can do.
I guess I will just wait and see what the situation is when I arrive and then ask a Thai friend to go help.
104 more work days until I am there full time. I cannot wait!!!!

Yes, you could have less time than you think. I guess 18 days time would be 31 Dec. There will be some Bank Holidays for you to contend with as well. You'll probably have to do what we did, buy a long hose, and speak nicely to your neighbour. Depending on the size of your tank, you'll probably get away with one refill. You don't need to be there when they install your meter.
