Beach Side Restaurant at Suan Son
Beach Side Restaurant at Suan Son
We thought that we'd nip down to one of our local beaches for lunch. After a bit of discussion, we decided to try the sea-front restaurant at Suan Son. Well the food was fantastic, and the weather perfect. More food than we could eat, plus a couple of soft drinks each - cost 260 Baht. The place was very clean, and the food (Thai only) tasted very good.
We've often looked at this restaurant while we've been sat on the beach, and thought how expensive it must be - far from it. We'll certainly be going again.

Is that the one just to the right of the car park nearest to the beach? If so, it is good and I think the prices are reasonable as it's run by the military, like the rest of that site. There is another one over to the left and back a bit which is like a food court in a shed where you can get even cheaper Thai street food which you can then eat on the beach.

Yes, that's the one Steve. I saw the food court place, but I just loved the setting of the restaurant and the cleanliness. As I said, we will go again.

Yes, I'll hopefully be lunching that way myself in a couple of days, it's best to go during the week though as it can get very busy at the weekends and you can struggle to get a table.
Incidentally, I assume the cooks are Army chefs as my partner tells me that it's about the only place she has ever seen a man making SomTam.

I agree that's a good spot. Almost always pop in there after playing golf at Sea Pines for a few cold beers.

South of town, over the flyover, turn left at the petrol station just after Banyan resort.
We take our dogs there regularly, but very early. Haven't eaten at the restaurant but have heard good things from people who have.

Just to add to that, it's actually a military recreation resort that is open to the public, so don't think you've gone the wrong way when you have to go through a sentry post. There's no entry fee but occaisonally you get charged a nominal parking fee of 20 bt if I remember correctly.South of town, over the flyover, turn left at the petrol station just after Banyan resort.

Yes, just to confirm, cars get charged 20 Baht by the guard at the entrance. I believe motor cycles are free.

I used to walk my dog there to. The restaurant is very good. Weekends and holidays you do get a lot of Thai groups down there barbecuing on the beach. I used do go twice a week at least when they get to know you as a regular they did not charge the 20 baht entry.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

Looking at the map it appears to be Soi 99 and its a PTT petrol station, not sure how far that is past the flyover but looks to be a good few km's - about 4-5?STEVE G wrote:Just to add to that, it's actually a military recreation resort that is open to the public, so don't think you've gone the wrong way when you have to go through a sentry post. Yes, just after the flyover before the new Tesco there is a petrol station and then you drive about 4-5 km.Dannie Boy wrote:Looking at the map it appears to be Soi 99 and its a PTT petrol station, not sure how far that is past the flyover but looks to be a good few km's - about 4-5?STEVE G wrote:Just to add to that, it's actually a military recreation resort that is open to the public, so don't think you've gone the wrong way when you have to go through a sentry post. Is this the beach that is the other side of the Big Buddha hill, if not, is it far down past there.Big Boy wrote:We thought that we'd nip down to one of our local beaches for lunch.
