Need a Thai restaurant recommendation!

Post by sourdough »

Hi and nice to see an active forum!

I will come over from Hong Kong for a few days and like to get a recommendation for some nice Thai restaurants. A few years ago I was in Phuket and Thai places were somehow rare. Nothing fancy, just good food. I will stay in Amari (hope that's OK), but it looks like Hua Hin is a bit spread out and we need transport anyway.

The Backyard Steak Restaurant will be tested too!

And I will carry an image of " ไม่ใส่ผงชูรส "

I think the best Thai restaurant in Hua Hin is Baan Issara on Nabkehart road. Everyone has a different opinions and budgets, but this is top of my list. Also great setting as it is on the seafront.

Boat Restaurant is 13/19 Soi Mooban Kanonoi. Coming from the town heading north along the Canal Road turn left at the traffic lights and it is on your right

Hi sourdough,

You have one of the best only a few hundred metres away from Amari - cross the road and walk about 150metres toward Hua Hin - you will see a huge tree with silver trunk which is in Rom Mai restaurant, awesome food - they do a dish called grispy gnochia salad - its directly beneath grispy morning glory salad - its unreal.
I have never had a bad meal there - try it and i promise you will be happy (its cheap to) :)

Another called Som Tam Yok Crock is about 100m south side of Market Village - really good Isaan and Thai dishes.

Enjoy and please report back!

Cheers,

JW

If you venture into the centre of Hua Hin then just off the main bar area "Bintabaht" is one of the street restaurants called Moonsmile and Plateau - really good food at very affordable prices, but tends to be busy.

Will do! My first stop was the Backyard Steak. Have to admit I expected a bit more. But for B189 ok I guess.

Naab Yhong is far to difficult to get to if you don't know the roads and not exactly close to the Amari.

I'm just here with an iPhone and hate small screen postings, plus the iPhone takes only full size images and I would need to resize them before posting, which I would if I had a PC.

....and another update. Rom Mai looked a little grotty for Xmas eve and we went to nearby Janlerm. The place looks quite new. Food is Thai only, menu is rather small - but it was good food and very modestly priced. May try Rom Mai another time - their menu looked good too.

Due to a family member that hates Thai food (without actually trying) we went to Papa John afterwards. The place was full and we were told it would take long time. After they checked with the kitchen this was changed to "very long time". So we left. This is obviously the disadvantage of a big menu, it usually backfires.

We checked Papa John for an afternoon snack today. We were the only guests, still had to wait some time. The food was ok though. Pizza was nice and thin, Satey were tasty.

No fixed plan for tonight. Will see what we find...
